Nazi symbolism

edit

Add section that mentions how this is Nazi symbolism. For example in 2020 NPR noted that: "an upside down red triangle symbol once used by Nazis to identify political opponents" when the Trump campaign used the same symbol.

This is like saying that the pink triangle is a Nazi symbol. It's technically true but that framing would lead people to a false conclusion. Just like the pink triangle, the red triangle has been re-appropriated by the people it was used to brand Cro-magnus (talk) 05:23, 7 August 2024 (UTC)Reply
Yes, but they use it to target israeli vehicles and tanks so clearly they use it the same way nazis used it. If it symbolized fascist resistance or palestian flag they wouldn't have used it in such manner. 185.146.113.189 (talk) 22:15, 7 August 2024 (UTC)Reply
The Nazis did not use the red triangle for Jews, they used it for communists. Hamas is allied with two communist militant groups, the PFLP and the DFLP. Cro-magnus (talk) 04:52, 8 August 2024 (UTC)Reply
It was used for concetraction camp inmates and PFLP and DDLP are fringe groups that do not even have presense in gaza. And again it uses symbol to target tanks. You do not use a symbol that you claim represents you to mark enemy vehicles. Engage with argument and stop repeating trivial matter. Why would they use it to target enemy vehicles? And they repeatedly denied holocoust and showen sympathies with nazis.185.146.113.189 (talk) 07:48, 8 August 2024 (UTC)Reply
First of all, PFLP and DFLP do have presence in Gaza and fight alongside Hamas. Secondly, the concentration camp inmates the Nazis branded with the red triangle were not Jews, they were communists. Thirdly, I am engaging with the argument, and you really aren't. You're claiming that Hamas uses the red triangle to mark Israeli armor and infantry in propaganda videos because the Nazis used the red triangle to mark communists, which is not a cogent argument. You're making a claim, the burden of proof is on you. Please provide evidence for the claim that Hamas uses the red triangle as an homage to the Nazis. Cro-magnus (talk) 10:03, 8 August 2024 (UTC)Reply
It is. They use it target enemy vehicles. Why would they use this symbol with association to nazism to do this. And triangle at palestian flag faces righwards 185.146.113.189 (talk) 10:44, 8 August 2024 (UTC)Reply
You're just speculating at this point. None of this meets the burden of proof Cro-magnus (talk) 10:52, 8 August 2024 (UTC)Reply
What? Why you would use a symbol with strong conections to nazi regime to target enemy vehicles. And hamas denies holocoust and friendly to nazism. You clearly know this but you play dump. Answear why they would mark enemy vehicles with their own flag. That doesn't make sense 185.146.113.189 (talk) 10:58, 8 August 2024 (UTC)Reply
And it was banned in germany which proof enought that puting this in wikipedia is valid. Why would they do this otherwise? Reading articles gives no clue why they did this 185.146.113.189 (talk) 11:00, 8 August 2024 (UTC)Reply
Appeal to authority. Please provide actual evidence that Hamas uses the red triangle, which is the most basic shape with a basic color, as an homage to Nazism. Cro-magnus (talk) 11:29, 8 August 2024 (UTC)Reply

None of these articles demonstrate a connection. They just say "for some, there is a connection." That is not proof. Cro-magnus (talk) 12:02, 8 August 2024 (UTC)Reply
that is why article has to mention it. Sentence literary starts with Some theorize 185.146.113.189 (talk) 12:04, 8 August 2024 (UTC)Reply
and stop edit waring. you haven't proven why jerusalme post can't be used and iprovided additional source that states it is used to targer jewish and pro-israeli people. every article states that so pls stop edit waring 185.146.113.189 (talk) 12:06, 8 August 2024 (UTC)Reply
it is a theory. that why it has been banned. if you don't allow me to do it the article will biased 185.146.113.189 (talk) 12:07, 8 August 2024 (UTC)Reply
The Jerusalem Post article is based on a tweet. Cro-magnus (talk) 12:22, 8 August 2024 (UTC)Reply
Is this the only thing you are going to say? I said i provided another source and many others say the same thing and your argument doesn't disqualify The Jerusalem Post. And explain on what basis mentioning that may be connected to nazis is wrong. quote: that is why the article has to mention it. Sentence literary starts with Some theorize. it is a theory. that is why it has been banned. if you don't allow me to do it the article will be biased 185.146.113.189 (talk) 12:36, 8 August 2024 (UTC)Reply

Reliability of sources and "targeting of Jewish students"

edit

The only evidence for the claim that the inverted triangle is used to target Jewish students on the basis of being Jewish is a Jerusalem Post article, (a right-wing Israeli newspaper) which itself cites a tweet that contains an image of a protester making the triangle symbol with his hands. This does not meet the standard of evidence and I will be removing the claim from the article until more reliable sources and actual evidence are provided. Also, spiked-online appears to be rather tabloid in its reporting and uses loaded language.

What year is this article referring to?

edit

The article refers to the Israeli invasion but which year and which invasion is it referring to? Can we get that added to the page please? Finkyspinky (talk) 15:21, 31 October 2024 (UTC)Reply

Proposed update of page title

edit

I understand how the red Triangle is used by pro-palestinians, I am not disputing this.

But the triangle is primarily a Hamas icon first then used by palestinians.

Even meta have acknowledged this:

https://mashable.com/article/meta-facebook-instagram-red-triangle-hamas-ban

What I am proposing is the title be updated from:

"Red triangle (Palestinian symbol)"

"Red triangle (Hamas symbol)"

In early November 2023, the inverted red triangle emerged as a symbol that in certain cases can signify support for violent Palestinian resistance against Israel. It is used both offline and online, sometimes in the form of an emoji (). At anti-Israel protests throughout 2024, protesters began to depict the symbol using a two-handed sign, in which the index and middle fingers of one hand form a "V" and the pointer or middle finger of the other hand form the top part of the triangle. The hand sign may also be made by forming a V using the middle finger of each hand and completing the top of the triangle with the index fingers of both hands overlapping.
The symbol first appeared in propaganda videos promoted by the al-Qassam brigades, the military wing of Hamas, which showed footage of Hamas terrorists attacking Israeli military targets indicated with an inverted red triangle.
Though it can be used innocuously in general pro-Palestine social media posts, the inverted red triangle is now used to represent Hamas itself and glorify its use of violence in many popular anti-Zionist memes and political cartoons. For example, individuals will place the symbol over an image of Israeli soldiers or overlaid on a Star of David as a way to call for further violent resistance.
