Languages or dialects?

edit

It seems like a double standard for Wikipedia to have separate articles on Bosnian language, Serbian language and Croatian language, but to force Havasupai and Hualapai into a single language. The modern Havasupai and Hualapai tribes say that they speak the "Havasupai language" and "Hualapai language" specifically, and use significantly different orthographies. While all signs point to this being a post-colonial development, it does seem that the modern Havasupai and Hualapai tribes consider them to be independent languages, although closely related. Do we respect political and cultural ideas of language vs. dialect in Europe, even when they don't align with linguistic principles such as mutual intelligibility, but choose not to take political and cultural considerations into account in non-European contexts? --M.W. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2600:8800:4A81:B800:CC8:65AC:F7AD:1004 (talk) 17:45, 20 November 2020 (UTC)Reply
