"With the German defeat the planned genocide of the Polish population, who were deemed by the German authorities to be "subhuman," was averted and Poles returned to Gdańsk." 1.) This is wrong.There was no significant pre-war Polish population in Danzig, so there were not many Poles to "return". It was settled new by Poles from main Poland. 2.) The sentence is awkward and clearly political. Nazi view on Poles do not imply that Poles had a reason to deport Germans from their homes.
