Talk:Key events of the 20th century

Under Holocaust: "There is some controversy over whether ordinary Germans knew about the Holocaust. It appears that many Germans knew about the concentration camps; such things were prominently displayed in magazines and newspapers. In many places, Jews had to walk past towns and villages on their way to work as slaves in German industry. In any case, Allied soldiers reported that the smell of the camps carried for miles. A very small number of people deny the Holocaust occurred entirely, though these claims have been routinely discredited by mainstream historians."

This entire paragraph consists of speculation and is not consistent with the rest of the page on 20th century events in style and tone. It should be deleted and replaced with a short comment on Holocaust denial.

A proposal for a complete rewrite of this page

edit

This page looks more like a military history of Europe and America in the 20th century. The world wars obviously loom large in the history of the 20th century. But they are not the only things of note during the century. There are for instance no references to either Gandhi or Mandela or Martin luther king Jr. Indian independence has just a single tangential reference. Einstein's discoveries of special relativity are not mentioned, neither is the discovery of quantum mechanics. These is a major omission since they were of paramount importance for the nuclear age.

There is no mention of the Rwandan Genocide of the bangladesh liberation war and the genocide associated with it. There is no mention of the discovery of penicillin nor of other medical discoveries.

I think this page does a poor job of representing 20th century history and should be rewritten it from scratch to have a more unbiased, neutral and more complete history which is not military based. I also suggest that we use the template set by the wikipedia page on 19th century history which presents major events in a chronological fashion(although that page too is completely eurocentric)

History of the 20th centuryKey events of the 20th century – I wouldn't call this page a comprehensive overview, nor do I think the page should be. I think "key events" captures the nature of the page better, and should lead to less random additions by folks trying to include every possible thing that happened during the 20th century. • Weak support what an embarrassment of an article. I created {{20th century}} and didn't know of this article when I did that. The current title isn't good (and should redirect to 20th century, which is a history of the 20th century -- it isn't great either but it is better than this). The suggested title isn't much better but it is slightly better; I regret I missed my chance to vote delete at the AFD. Some sense that the "key events" of the article are related to international relations (plus one random section about computers that can be kicked out) should probably be in the title.
