Essay like

edit

I will try to explain here why I put the tag on the article. There is use of the second person (you/you're), use of "'re" vs "are", editorial comments including "therefore", etc. This is mostly a tone issue: Wikipedia articles should instead just describe things. Once the article improved, the tag can be removed. Thanks, —PaleoNeonate18:20, 31 July 2018 (UTC)Reply

Adding: there also appear to be synthesis (WP:SYNTH): is there a source which mentions those various themes and sources? —PaleoNeonate18:22, 31 July 2018 (UTC)Reply

Totally agree with the comments made on this page. History of the body sounds better and is more descriptive of my invisionment of the article. Many thanks for the comments.— Preceding unsigned comment added by Devon.evanovich (talkcontribs) 22:15, 3 August 2018 (UTC)Reply

Good to hear, Devon.evanovich. Thanks for the reply! (By the way, if, when you make a comment, you write four tildes (~) at the end, the post will show your username and the time of posting -- handy! So I'm about to type four tildes, but what you will see is... Alarichall (talk) 22:25, 3 August 2018 (UTC)Reply

Rename as 'History of the body'?

edit

I came to this page because I was looking for a Wikipedia entry for 'History of the body', which has been a major movement in historical research. @Devon.evanovich: many thanks for your work on this page! I can see that this page could be developed in really useful ways from this foundation. I find 'History of the body and disorder' a bit of a hard title to understand though. The history of disorder seems like quite a huge and vague topic! I've created History of the body, and it currently redirects to History of the body and disorder, but I wonder if we could switch things around and make the main page into History of the body? History of the body and disorderHistory of the body – Quoting user Alarichall: "I find 'History of the body and disorder' a bit of a hard title to understand though. I note that Devon.evanovich, the page creator, has supported this in the comment above. Alarichall (talk) 22:25, 3 August 2018 (UTC)Reply
My rationale to open an official discussion was that the article is so new and received little attention. I suppose that we could snow close it as "support" if we all agree for the move which seems non-controversial. —PaleoNeonate23:09, 3 August 2018 (UTC)Reply
  • Support - adding "and disorder" invites material on medical aspects which would then be subject to WP:MEDRS. Considering that the article is mostly about history and protoscience, limiting its scope is probably best. —PaleoNeonate23:09, 3 August 2018 (UTC)Reply

Proposed merge with History of anatomy

edit

Same concepts but slightly different. I suggest the combination of the two. AmericanAir88 (talk) 20:22, 9 August 2018 (UTC)Reply

Oppose an interesting proposal! This article is not quite about the history of anatomy, and I think it would be confusing to merge it to that article (which is more like, "History of the study of anatomy"). This article is more like, History of beliefs about the human body or something similar... I think a move of this article to a more appropriate title might help. --Tom (LT) (talk) 23:19, 9 August 2018 (UTC)Reply
Oppose: the history of anatomy is the history of a particular scientific discipline. The history of the body is a different (but related) sphere of cultural history. The seminal works for the development of this field is Roy Porter, '[https://is.muni.cz/el/1421/podzim2014/HIA267/um/Porter_Body_history.pdf History of the Body', in New Perspectives on Historical Writing, ed. by Peter Burke (University Park, Pa., 1991), pp. 206-32 along with 'History of the Body Reconsidered' in the second edition of the same book. We should get a reference to this into the page :-) Alarichall (talk) 23:39, 9 August 2018 (UTC)Reply

History of the bodyHistory of beliefs about the human body – The proposed title best reflects the scope and contents of the article. The current title is confusing (see the merge proposal above). The proposed title is more accurate, and also neatly fits in with our anatomy corpus, readily being linked from belief / social & cultural sections in several articles. Tom (LT) (talk) 22:31, 12 August 2018 (UTC)Reply

Just to note there is another page - the history of the location of the soul (by same editor) - perhaps this page could be merged to new suggested title which could read - History of beliefs about the human body and soul.--Iztwoz (talk) 05:06, 13 August 2018 (UTC)Reply
There is a lot more academic research out there, though, on the history of the location of the soul, so there's plenty of scope for that page to develop. I'd suggest rather that 'History of beliefs about the human body' could link to it (possibly as a main article). Alarichall (talk) 07:29, 13 August 2018 (UTC)Reply
