The Wii U should be classed as a 7th gen console.
editThe Wii U released one year prior to the PS4 and Xbox One, but was evidently made to compete with Sony and Microsoft's prior HD consoles. Not only is there little in the way of meaningful processor, resolution and memory upgrades, the Wii U still retained characteristics not present in any 8th generation console, such as legacy support for 4:3 standard definition television displays. If you track the hardware and software support from Nintendo and third parties, you can observe that there's far more overlap with Xbox 360/PS3's defining titles, and almost no overlap from PS4 and Xbox One (e.g: Black Ops 2, Splinter Cell, Batman Arkham Origins, Need for Speed Most Wanted, Mass Effect 3, Assassin's Creed III and IV). Major franchises (e.g: Minecraft, Terraria, LEGO) stopped releasing new titles or software updates simultaneously on all three HD consoles, and the hardware was discontinued entirely in 2017 - aligning closely with the discontinuation of the Xbox 360/PS3 hardware in 2016. - We go by how sources define the market and competition of the consoles, not the tech specs directly. Wii U was commonly talked alongside the PS4 and Xbox One, so its an eighth gen console. Masem (t) 23:05, 12 May 2024 (UTC)
- Could you cite any reliable sources that define the Wii U as competing with the PS4 and Xbox One? Many publishers and developers didn't seem to think so as evidenced by the system's lifecycle and support. EA even refused to categorise Wii U as a "Gen 4" console. - There's multiple in the article already, not to mention, simple Google searches find more pretty easily too. Sergecross73 msg me 01:16, 14 May 2024 (UTC)

- No, reliable sources don't commonly state this. Sergecross73 msg me 23:15, 12 May 2024 (UTC)
- Then the Wii should stay in 6th or 7th gen, it's literally an overclocked GameCube. VitAlv13 (talk) 12:53, 10 October 2024 (UTC)
- We go by what reliable sources say, per WP:V, not personal observations on horsepower of the hardware. Sergecross73 msg me 12:55, 10 October 2024 (UTC)
- Then the Game & Watch Super Mario Bros. (2020) would be the successor to the Switch, because it released later? VitAlv13 (talk) 13:41, 10 October 2024 (UTC)
- That's not how that works, particularly with a product line as complex as Nintendo's. — Masem (t) 13:44, 10 October 2024 (UTC)
- I don't understand how you could have come to that conclusion from what I said. Sergecross73 msg me 13:57, 10 October 2024 (UTC)

The separation of Original and Slim
editThe Eighth generation of video game consoles is the first page to distinctly separate ps4 slim and Xbox one s from there original models. Every other page lists them together or under each-other.
The pro models make sense to separate, the slim models should be merged in and added to details to the original model. Doremon764 (talk) 03:18, 20 July 2024 (UTC)
- The slim models were only a casing redesign but did not significantly change the CPU or GPU. the Pro models did improve these systems and others. That's why they are treated differently Masem (t) 03:50, 20 July 2024 (UTC)
- Seconded, Masem is correct. Sergecross73 msg me 13:18, 20 July 2024 (UTC)
- I meant on other lists slim models are not displayed separately from the original model.
- Seventh generation of video game consoles (with Wii, Xbox 360, and PS3)
- Sixth generation of video game consoles (with PS2)
- Even with Third generation of video game consoles, as well as Second generation of video game consoles(with SG-1000, NES/Famicom, Master System/Mark III, Atari 7800, and for second generation Atari 2600 and Intellivision)
- The chart on this page separate into columns Xbox one from its s model, the PS4 from its slim model, and Nintendo Switch oled model from the original column. Doremon764 (talk) 22:05, 22 July 2024 (UTC)
- When it comes to the handhelds on this page PSVita and 3DS are pact in the same box when it comes to how the chart is displayed. Just to bring up the inconsistency of the charts. Doremon764 (talk) 22:09, 22 July 2024 (UTC)
