Separate alumni article

edit

The Horace Mann School article currently lists 94 alumni. Over half of the references in the article are tied to alumni and most alumni do not have and need references to verify attendance. The notable alumni section is close to one-third of the article. I have identified 40–50 more persons with wikipedia articles who might be added to list, so the number of alumni listed could see a significant step increase. Per WP:ALUMNI, if a list of alumni in a school article becomes quite large, consider moving it to another page entitled "List of...", so I propose creating a "List of Horace Mann School alumni" article and moving the list of notable alumni from Horace Mann School to this new list article. I could be WP:BOLD and just do it, but wanted to sound out other editors, especially any that would be opposed to this proposal. – Archer1234 (talk) 19:39, 4 July 2019 (UTC)Reply

Promotional, fluff

edit

ElKevbo, John from Idegon, I'm sure you have some thoughts on this article. One IP editor has been blocked, but User talk:Luciano Dorma, an SPI, keeps restoring the usual unverified information--lists of clubs, with what Ivy League universities the students work with, how many unverified headlines were made by student publications, etc. Luciano Dorma, you really should have a look at Wikipedia:WikiProject Schools/Article advice. • Thanks, Drmies. Why pay for a website when you can use Wikipedia for free, eh? Not untypical private school spam. Luciano Dorma, what is your connection to this school? Are you a student, staff or alumni? If you are staff, is maintaining the school's internet presence part of your job? Answering these questions is not optional. John from Idegon (talk) 17:15, 12 June 2020 (UTC)Reply

I've reviewed much of the major edits over the past few days. I agree with removing much of the unsourced information on clubs, division heads, and external links – but removing sourced information about the school's major publications and its awards, reputation and rankings by notable secondary sources, and even the notable and well-sourced sexual abuse information is just going overboard. This article can be reworked and sourced. Also, regarding the above comments: questioning an editor about motives really goes against WP:CIVIL and WP:AGF, so please keep this constructive and not personal. -- Wikipedical (talk) 22:00, 12 June 2020 (UTC)Reply

I just added some sources and was reverted with the edit summary, "Source doesn't verify change." User:John from Idegon, what are you talking about? I added multiple sources and made sure that the information I cited was present. Please self-revert. -- Wikipedical (talk) 22:46, 12 June 2020 (UTC)Reply

Hi User:John from Idegon, your latest revert of my constructive edits implies I added one secondary source, which is clearly incorrect. I added sources from the New York Times, Hartford Courant, a Google Books source, and others. I would appreciate it if you discussed what you’re thinking here. Otherwise your reverts of my trying to improve the article (with hostile edit summaries so far) seem disruptive to me. —- Wikipedical (talk) 23:05, 12 June 2020 (UTC)Reply

User:Drmies, would you review my edits since the other editor isn’t discussing here? -- Wikipedical (talk) 23:32, 12 June 2020 (UTC)Reply
I won't have time today. Get over it. John from Idegon (talk) 01:49, 13 June 2020 (UTC)Reply

Hi, User:John from Idegon- today I updated some facts and figures citing the HM website, completely appropriate per WP:PRIMARY ("straightforward, descriptive statements of facts"). Acting on your suggestion, I also added some independent secondary sources today as inline citations for some of the unreferenced sections. They included articles in news sources verifying sentences in the History, Divisions, and Athletics sections. Please discuss here which specifically (if any) sources I added you find objectionable instead of mass reverting without explaining. I'm trying to help source the article. Thanks. -- Wikipedical (talk) 16:51, 15 June 2020 (UTC)Reply

User:John from Idegon, did you object to solely the HM website as a reference or the NYT, Hartford Courant, Encyclopedia of the Social and Cultural Foundations of Education, and MaxPreps references as well? -- Wikipedical (talk) 01:43, 16 June 2020 (UTC)Reply
Wikipedical, I restored two of the sources you added, and that updated URL. Thank you. Drmies (talk) 01:48, 16 June 2020 (UTC)Reply
Will you please stop with the mass changes? It is after all, on you to gain consensus for your changes. Take it on subject at a time, please. Thanks. John from Idegon (talk) 03:10, 16 June 2020 (UTC)Reply

Betty White

edit

Betty White was listed as a student at Horace Mann in the Wikipedia article on Betty White. Someone should update the famous alumni list to include this legendary figure. 2603:8000:CC00:AF00:7843:407C:389F:520D (talk) 16:17, 2 August 2024 (UTC)Reply
