"Houyi"

edit

Does anyone notice that "Houyi" can't be pronounced anywhere near what his Chinese name actually sounds like? Where does this spelling "Houyi" come from? I don't know pinyin. Can anyone verify this? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.135.143.106 (talk) 22:15, 24 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

Volcanism around 1270 BC and "myth of 10 suns"

edit

On a gods & goddesses website it says the "myth of the 10 suns" was "around 1270 BC". This is of course not a reliable source, and cites no source for the date. But assuming the date is "real" (in the sense that there is archeological evidence or something that dates the story itself to a time around then, and semi-conclusive evidence that the story did not exist or was different before then) - was there any volcanism around that time that could explain it? China has almost no volcanos. The ones that exist are on the other end of the modern country from where the ancient Chinese lived. No, it has absolutely nothing to do with volcanism. — LlywelynII 15:28, 25 December 2022 (UTC)Reply

Culture hero

edit

needs to be included that some sources treat Houyi as a culture hero responsible for the invention of archery altogether. — LlywelynII 15:28, 25 December 2022 (UTC)Reply
