Change "New Thought" to "New Age"
editI am proposing to change to New Age. I was one of the original editors who classified it as New Thought but at that time I did not fully comprehend the difference between New Thought and New Age. If you look at the New Thought info box that has since been placed on the page, it has very little to do with Huna. For example Huna is unconcerned with "God" and most adherents maintain it is not a religion. In addition, there is at least one scholarly article which classifies it as New Age, and none that classify it as New thought. That article is here: "Hawaiian at Heart" and Other Fictions, Lisa Kahaleole Hall, The Contemporary Pacific, Volume 17, Number 2, 404-413, © 2005 by University of Hawai'i Press http://scholarspace.manoa.hawaii.edu/bitstream/handle/10125/13881/v17n2-404-413-dialogue2.pdf?sequence=1 Your thoughts? editMoving this here from my talk page:
I hope you will re-check the edit of mine that you reverted on Huna (New Age). I did not add or delete any sources or content, which (since your edit summary says I did) makes me think maybe you didn't really read the edit carefully before reverting it. I only moved an existing source into a different paragraph and changed some wording to make clearer who said what and reduce POV. Wikipedia can say "this source says the system is cultural appropriation" but Wikipedia can never say "the system is cultural appropriation," even with a source... to do so crosses far over the WP:NPOV boundary. 2607:FEA8:12A0:194:4687:FCFF:FE5C:A019 (talk) 16:30, 18 December 2017 (UTC)
- Article improvements go on article talk but, briefly, it's not that "other authors claim" these words have other meanings. It's like a Chinese speaker writing that the English word foot means "dog" and then you wanting to say that "other writers claim the word dog actually means foot." It is undue weight to give the anomaly, the misappropriation, the same weight as the actual meanings in the culture itself. The problem isn't with the sources (which yes, I did initially think you had deleted sources), the problem is with how you reworded the text to apply undue weight. I will fix it now. - CorbieV ☊ ☼ 23:42, 18 December 2017 (UTC)
- Thanks, that's an improvement on the previous wording. 2607:FEA8:12A0:194:4687:FCFF:FE5C:A019 (talk) 00:50, 19 December 2017 (UTC)
The term Huna.
editPlease remove this from your source base. The man, Max Freedom Long, might have been an educator, but he had no idea what he was talking about. He wanted the people to talk to him about the "Kapu's" at a time when his people (Americans) made it a point to punish my Grandparents, "Kukupuna or Tutu" for even speaking the language. Geez, I wonder why they didn't speak to him? So he decide to fabricate a LIE in order to bolster his claims? The only thing you are doing is "rubber stamping" the mindless thoughts of a madman. 2600:1700:CC50:5630:BD11:5FB3:D6A2:932C (talk) 03:46, 28 August 2022 (UTC)
