What is an I/O operation?
To understand I/O operations per second it would be good to know what an I/O operation is, but this is not defined in the article. Is an I/O operation a read or write of a block? Of a 32-bit or 64-bit word, depending on the operating system? A file? Is it sometimes 4 kbytes (random access) and sometimes 128 kbytes (sequential access) as suggested under Performance characteristics? IOLJeff (talk) 22:13, 15 April 2014 (UTC)
