editI removed the following from the article because I really don't think RPG stats belong in Wikipedia. Since large numbers of these "vital stats" sections have been added to various articles, I'm using Talk:Strength level (comics) to discuss this issue in general. Bryan 07:47, 28 Jan 2004 (UTC)
Vital statistics
edit- Group affiliations: X-Men, X-Factor (disbanded), The New Defenders (disbanded), Champions (disbanded)
- Real Name: Robert "Bobby" Drake
- Height: 5 ft. 8 in.
- Weight: 145 lbs.
- Eyes: Brown
- Hair: Brown
- Other distinguishing characteristics: In Ice Form Ice-Man's entire body becomes a material that resembles transparent ice.
- Intelligence: Above Normal
- Strength: Enhanced Human (Ice Form)
- Speed: Normal
- Reflexes: Normal
- Agility: Normal
- Endurance: Metahuman Regenerative (Ice Form)
- Energy Projection: Great
- Other powers: In ice form Ice-Man has great elemental energy projection powers and inhuman endurance to subzero temperatures. In ice form his endurance and strength are substantially increased, especially the former.
- Note: Originally, Iceman's powers were not as great as they are presently. It was only after the superhuman mutant known as Emma Frost released his latent mutant potential that his elemental powers accellerated to the degree that he could actually transform his body into some kind of organic ice form. Ice-Man's elemental powers also increased greatly due to the intervention of Emma Frost. Previous to that developement, Ice-Man was only able to encase him self in ice in his Ice form and did not actually become living Ice. His elemental powers were also relatively limited.
- Source of powers: Benevolent mutation.

Other Media
editI added a few notes into the "Other Media" section. Noting Iceman and Rogue's relationship in X2 (a contrast to the typical Rogue and Gambit of the comics) and his strength in the X-Men Legends game.
Deformation
editCan we get another Iceman picture? That one is completely hideous and makes him look more like some sort of down syndrome elemental than Iceman. And isn't even indicative of his current incarnation in either 616 or the Ultimate continuity. TotalTommyTerror 16:22, 12 December 2005 (UTC)

- I think it would be better to use an image that is more memorable as Iceman: http://www.marvel.com/universe3zx/images/5/54/Iceman442px.jpg for instance, is the image marvel.com use, and I think it suits much better. Jacobshaven3 09:21, 17 June 2006 (UTC)
- I agree with Jacobshaven. The smooth form is better recognized, and is the only one I'm aware of appearing outside the comics. The spiked image should be moved to the "Appearance" section. Maxrandom777 08:48, 23 July 2006 (UTC)

I don't know how to edit.
editCan anyone edit this? What if their facts are wrong?
Anyway, Iceman is certainly NOT the only X-men to stay with the team for its entire run.
He (along with Angel, Marvel Girl, Havok and Polaris) quit the team in X-men Vol. 1 #94.
He made a few guest appearances afterwards (during Dave Cockrum's 2nd run, for example), but he didn't become an official member of the team again until Uncanny X-men #281, or X-men Vol. 2 #1 (both published in June 1991).

"Before Bobby joined the X-Men he had a girlfriend. Unfortunately, Professor Xavier erased all memories of her from Bobby's head when he told her too much about the X-Men"
- i fixed this, it was a girl he met while on leave from the school for a weekend or something. Not form before he was an x-man. He erased the encounter from both thier minds, to protect the girl as much as the x-men.T-Man 10:44, 15 July 2006 (UTC)

Question about Iceman in the 2nd X-Men Movie
edit- In the 2nd X-Men movie, why didn't Bobby Drake save the day at the end instead of Jean Grey?
Couldn't he have just frozen the entire water mass of Alkali Lake, instead of having Jean Grey try to push back the water psionically? This would have stopped the potential flood problem immediately. Thoughts? Smeelgova 05:46, 29 May 2006 (UTC)
He could have, but then they couldn't have the brilliant plot device of Jean dying and coming back as the f*cking Phoenix. But anyway, this isn't a forum.67.142.130.29 21:18, 1 June 2006 (UTC)
- Jean was preventing the others from using their powers. And maybe he wasn't that powerful? --DrBat 01:57, 13 June 2006 (UTC)
- That's my vote. The Iceman from the regular comics has been getting steadily stronger over a long period of time, whereas the Iceman from the X-flicks isn't nearly as experienced. He didn't even turn to ice until the end of the third film. EVula 02:52, 13 June 2006 (UTC)
Up to that point, it seemed Bobby required a physical connection to the object he was effecting. Even that icewall he used to seperate Stryker and Wolverine, he had his hand on the wall with an icetrail connecting from the solid wall to the icewall. So I don't think he could have frozen the water without actually being apart of it.....which would have killed him anyway. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 216.15.101.82 (talk) 01:13, 9 May 2008 (UTC)
Know what would be cool?
editIf, I dunno, we could pick a goddamned picture and keep it. Yeah? Wouldn't that just be awesome?67.142.130.41 02:14, 11 June 2006 (UTC)
- Indeed. Agreed. Hopefully something that shows his whole body and has good resulution, too. ACS (Wikipedian) 17:55, 17 July 2006 (UTC)
Jewish?
editWhen was it stated he was Jewish? --DrBat 01:56, 13 June 2006 (UTC)
- News to me. The only thing I was able to find was The Jewish Supers List. EVula 02:57, 13 June 2006 (UTC)
- I don't remember where it was stated, but Bobby's mother is Jewish. That technically makes Bobby half-Jewish ethnically, but I don't think he practices the religion. I think it's just his ethnic background. Breakaway 18:44, 13 June 2006 (UTC)
- If that quote is true, then he is Jewish. The Jewish line follows the mother, so if anyone is born with a Jewish mum (regardless of the fathers religion) the children are Jewish too.Jacobshaven3 09:16, 17 June 2006 (UTC)
- Has a Jewish mother and Catholic father. Whether or not he practices judaism or Catholicism is ambiguous. He could practice either Catholicsm (like his father) or Judaism (like his mother) Who knows if his mother became Catholic after marriage or vice versa. Who knows? Ambiguity. That's probably best to leave it at that. 72.251.0.211 19:26, 2 August 2007 (UTC)
Judaism isn't just a religion, it is an ethnicity/race. That is why if you are born to a Jewish mother, you too are Jewish, regardless of what religion you practice. Ask any rabbi... 192.249.47.11 (talk) —Preceding undated comment was added at 18:50, 17 December 2008 (UTC).
- the "source" for Iceman's Jewish / Catholic background is an unoffical site that doesn't cite any issue number where this is confirmed. it seems to be based on some fan-made biography and a collection of random forum discussions. Powers and abilities
editRegarding Iceman's powers, it is obvious that there is a lot one can do when one controls temperature and moisture. However, I don't think an entire section entitled "Iceman's Specific Powers" is needed. A good deal of the information was already in the article under the "Powers" section. If there is a power that you don't see on the page, though, I'd try to weave it into the already existing section. These articles are meant to be as small and concise as possible. HAVOK/POLARIS/ICEMAN Triangle
editCould I get some help with expanding on this issue in the Iceman article? At this point, it is quite confusing as to the exact state of the relationship between the three of them and to specifics behind Polaris refusing Iceman recently and finally apparently choosing Havok. Havok also seems betrayed by Iceman, why? Some help in the article, thanks. (RossF18 05:11, 17 March 2007 (UTC))
Biography Section
editThe biography section really needs expansion, either that or the publication history section addition and expansion (especially considering the importance of the character, being Omega-level and all). Thanks. (RossF18 05:11, 17 March 2007 (UTC))
Fair use rationale for Image:Iceman24.jpg
editImage:Iceman24.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.
Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If there is other other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. X-men: the movie
editHe may not have been in the movie long but he did several things. One of them one of them is essential to the plot.
- He freezes the flame Pyro creates, and then he says "high I'm Bobby, what's your name?" Rogue replies "Marie" Then he lifts his hand off her desk to reveal an ice rose.
- Then he sees her steel Logans powers.
- Mystique maskerades as him to get her to leave the mansion. She also does this so as not noticed in the mansion.
Why was this deleted from the article. Oh and by the way he was play by Shawn Ashmore.
Fair use disputed for Image:12514-iceman 400.jpg
editThanks for uploading Image:12514-iceman 400.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our Criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Phil Sandifer 02:10, 13 September 2007 (UTC)

early history
editIceman was one of the original x-man and i remember reading in a marvel book that he could only make snow at first(i remeber the pic, he looked like a snowman) but it wasnt till later that he learned how to control it and make sold ice, which confuses me because it says in the bio that he started by turning a guy into a block of ice —Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.100.137.118 (talk) 04:13, 27 June 2008 (UTC)
- he could always MAKE ice, but he couldn't coat himself in it, because he'd be unable to move, so he coated himself in snow, which is flexible. Later on he coated himself with some kind of flexible ice, or likely made it change rapidly as he moved so it was always moving with him. Later still he changed into actual LIVING ice, somehow. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 75.73.70.113 (talk) 06:13, 20 July 2008 (UTC)
Divided We Stand
editI'm wondering if we shouldn't just remove the Divided We Stand section and integrate the important information into Manifest Destiny. Since DWS is now over and the X-Men regrouped, the DWS section for Iceman is heavy on recent-ism, since nothing of particular note to the character happens nor does he change much as a result of those events. Basically, while Manifest Destiny deals with Iceman's personal struggle, we should put in a line afterward that states that he rejoins the X-Men in San Francisco. I'll do that, but if anyone disagrees, we can talk it out here.Luminum (talk) 15:11, 11 September 2008 (UTC)
Gay
editThe homosexual version of Iceman is an alternate universe character. The series all new x-men happens in an alternate universe and is not the same Booby Drake from Earth-616 (the mainstream Marvel universe). The article makes it seems as if the gay Iceman is the same Iceman that has been published since the 1960s. It needs to be worded as so, so maybe move the All New X-Men section to the Other Versions section. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2600:1008:B00E:55A:C98B:217F:F5C8:D806 (talk) 04:38, 14 June 2015 (UTC)
- The Iceman you describe as an alternate universe character is, in fact, the younger version from the same timeline and universe. This has been stated multiple times throughout the series. For example, when younger Cyclops' was close to death, older Cyclops was "fading" from existence. It has also been confirmed by writer Brian Michael Bendis and his soon-to-be replacement Jeff Lemire explicitly and in no uncertain terms that younger Iceman and older Iceman are the same person and, being the same person, are both gay. An explanation should be provided in Uncanny X-Men #600, which is due out October 7, 2015. --Idisestablish (talk) 16:24, 28 July 2015 (UTC)
- Older Iceman admitted being closeted and came out as gay in Uncanny 600. It's beyond debate now, even for people who hate gay people and like to erase them from Wikipedia.Zythe (talk) 10:36, 11 November 2015 (UTC)

Iceman (character) → ? – Per Iceman#Fictional characters, the disambiguator "(character)" is ambiguous. In April 2017, this article was moved from Iceman (comics) to its current title; this may be the best option, but moving the article back there conflicts with the guideline at WP:NCCDAB stating that "(comics)" should be used for publications (since February 2017). So, with the new guidelines, maybe an alternative title could be Iceman (comics character) or Iceman (Marvel Comics)? Steel1943 (talk) 06:41, 17 August 2017 (UTC)

Not gay
editThe real Iceman is not gay. That's just propaganda by the powerful gay lobby. The same writer who's trying to turn him gay is a far-left homosexual propagandist named Sina Grace who constantly publishes disgusting sexually deviant filth. He/she/it/whatever recently created a drag queen mutant that pretends to be a woman. Given that Marvel Comics is geared for children, this is truly horrifying. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Outrdline (talk • contribs) 22:29, 9 January 2019 (UTC)

In Other Media: Video Games - Additional Info
editThe character was added to the game Marvel Puzzle Quest in September 2015. As of July 17th 2019, he was added to the game again, this time as a 5 star Epic character. His description with alludes to his sexuality begins with "From teaching young mutants at the Xavier Institute to getting into the world of dating after years in the closet, Bobby Drake is doing his best to have it all." The wikia page for the game doesn't have him listed yet, which is understandable because that's fan updated. The D3 forums do have it announced, and here is the link for it.
