editTechncially, this is incorrect. The Illinois Zephyr is a descendent of the Nebraska Zephyr passenger train operated by the Chicago, Burlington and Quincy Railroad.
Incorrect, please site your historical reference or CB&Q timetables!! There is an INCORRECT Internet reference (and at Illinois Railway Museum) that lists this SAME MISTAKE. PLEASE uses correct historcial references or published timetables - as asked by Wikipedia. The Nebraska Zephyr train NEVER traveled the CB&Q's - "Q" branch from Galesburg to West Quincy route. This specific Chicago to Kansas City CB&Q route (via the Mississippi river crossing at Quincy, IL) was for the Kansas City and American Royal Zephyrs. Beatgr 18:35 30 May 2006
Route change
editThis train began on November 14, 1971, running across the Mississippi to West Quincy. It pulled back to Quincy around 1995. Does anyone know the date it pulled back ? The 4/1/90 schedule shows West Quincy, while the 4/14/96 schedule shows Quincy as the end point. Dale
- Good question. The termination for this train at West Quincy, MO or Quincy, IL was changed, but I do not have a specific date (may be in Amtrak historical records). I do know that after the Mississippi River floods of 1993 - the termination has remained at Quincy, IL

- According to Craig Sander's book, Amtrak in the Heartland of 2006, the Illinois Zephyr began to terminate in Quincy on May 1, 1994. According to the book, flooding damaged the West Quincy facilities. Trains still cross to West Quincy for lay up and servicing however, as the present Quincy station has no siding or wye off the busy main track.

Merge?
editShould this be merged with Carl Sandburg (Amtrak)? They are essentially the same route. --Elliskev 16:07, 30 October 2006 (UTC)
- No, I am not in favor of this. These are 2 seperate Amtrak trains and schedules. Such a merged entry does not follow the Wikipedia framework for US passenger (Amtrak) trains. BTW, did you notice that there are seperate train entries for Saluki and Illini - that also travel the same old Illinois Central route? IF you desire to request that Amtrak framework be changed - you have that right to request such at Wiki, but not here. Beatgr 18:30, 30 October (UTC)
- It was a suggestion. I didn't unilaterally merge... I'll take your comment as opposed. --Elliskev 18:47, 30 October 2006 (UTC)
- BTW, can you point me to the framework you mentioned? I'd like to read that. Thanks. --Elliskev 18:51, 30 October 2006 (UTC)
- Oh. And I did suggest a merge at Saluki (Amtrak) and Illini (Amtrak). --Elliskev 18:53, 30 October 2006 (UTC)
- Why is a Michigan person interested in Illinois based and financed trains? Former resident of the area served by this route? User talk:Beatgr 19:03, 30 October (UTC)
- I'm interested in Amtrak routes. I'm especially pleased to see the expansion... --Elliskev 19:10, 30 October 2006 (UTC)

You can either read Wikipedia:WikiProject Trains or correspond with User talk:Slambo who is member of task force Wikipedia:WikiProject Trains/Passenger trains task force. I have elected not to serve in a primary role, due to my time committments, but I will be assisting them with CB&Q historical trains and routes.
Modified merge suggestion
editI have change my suggestion from merge with Carl Sandburg (Amtrak) to merge into Illinois Service. See comments/discussion at Talk:Carl Sandburg (Amtrak). In a nutshell, the six routes that make up the Illinois Service are really just components of that service. I think a nice article could be made from the collection of start class articles. --Elliskev 14:05, 31 October 2006 (UTC)
