Anniversary Tracks

edit

As stated, listing the additional CDs and their tracks in an anniversary edition is common. See Abby Road, Beatles White Album, Stand Up. I could keep going. I think you are reading WP guidelines incorrectly. HedgeHogPower (talk) 02:43, 27 June 2021 (UTC)Reply

A previous version from October 2020 listed the anniversary edition discs, but with the tracks hidden. I don't know if that makes a difference. I am not saying the tracks need to be shown. They can be hidden. But they should be acknowledged. [1] HedgeHogPower (talk) 02:53, 27 June 2021 (UTC)Reply
It is acceptable to include the anniversary tracks. Pretty much every anniversary album on Wikipedia has the extra track listings included. I think we can have WP:Consensus here. It seems that Popcornfud is trying to discreetly change the article back to a version from over ten years ago.QuintusPetillius (talk) 10:09, 27 June 2021 (UTC)Reply

See WP:TRACKLISTING: "Include track listings for alternative editions only when they are significantly different and when the tracks are the subject of extensive commentary in the article." This was agreed by consensus in a discussion over at WP:ALBUMS a month or two ago. We should be removing these alternative tracklists from articles. Popcornfud (talk) 11:56, 27 June 2021 (UTC)Reply

I also don't think its a good idea in this instance. Ceoil (talk) 12:53, 27 June 2021 (UTC)Reply
(1) A Few more anniversary sets listed: Abby Road 2019 Anniversary Edition, Beatles White Album 50th Anniversary Edition, Stand Up: The 2010 Collector's Edition, LA Woman 40th Anniversary Edition, Waiting for the Sun 40th Anniversary Edition, Minstrel in the Gallery 40th Anniversary Edition
(2) I think the way in which the rule is applied is shown here on the multiple reissues of Brain Salad Surgery. . Though the 1996 version is remastered, the listing does not repeat the first eight tracks because those titles are "not significantly different" from the original album. Therefore, the 1996 Rhino edition only lists track 9, which is not found on the original album. The 2008 edition has a second disc, and the tracks are listed. The 2014 edition also has a second disc. But its tracks are listed because they are completely different those on the 2008 edition's second disc. But for both the 2008 and 2014 editions, disc one is not listed. Again, because (though remastered) the tracks on disc one are "not significantly different" from those on the original album. That is how I understand the rule and that is how I am seeing it applied. See WP:OTHERSTUFFEXISTS. You can find as many examples of alternative tracklists on Wikipedia article as you like - it doesn't matter. After a recent discussion, the consensus was to exclude them going forward. Popcornfud (talk) 09:38, 29 June 2021 (UTC)Reply
I read the discussion you pointed to at WP:TRACKLISTING [2]. However, I am seeing not seeing this "consensus"" that you seemed intent on ramming through...with you being half the comments... the final three comments indicate that people are still expecting at least one version of a deluxe album to be listed:
" mostly agreed with you about the track listings, I don't think we should add extra editions in the articles as well, but I suggest we should keep only one version of the deluxe edition of the album, and remove the extra editions that are only available in iTunes, Target, UK, Japan and other countries."
"If there are multiple deluxe editions, and the track order is different, only one needs to be listed".
"I'm sure we can make allowances for listing a few bonus tracks off an otherwise similar edition if they're discussed in the article, right?"
Perhaps this discussion needs to be revisited.HedgeHogPower (talk) 00:40, 30 June 2021 (UTC)Reply
In regards to WP:TRACKLISTING: "Include track listings for alternative editions only when they are significantly different and when the tracks are the subject of extensive commentary in the article", I think only a paragraph is needed in the article body to cover the 20th anniversary edition which I am happy to write, but I am a bit busy at present. I can probably do it this weekend. Cheers. QuintusPetillius (talk) 20:22, 30 June 2021 (UTC)Reply
Well as long as its substantive, and not just release dates, formats and song listings. Because that would be reverted. Ceoil (talk) 00:48, 4 July 2021 (UTC)Reply

"30 microphones"

edit

I realize that this doesn't qualify as a reliable source, but just wanted to mention that I worked with Albini a few years ago on a week long recording session and I asked him directly if he really did "surrounded Grohl's drum kit with about 30 microphones" during In Utero. Steve replied that was not true, that it was somewhere around 12 or 13. Maybe someday we can find a usable source so that we can remove this hearsay from the page. Track 13

edit

The article says "All tracks are written by Kurt Cobain, except tracks 2 and 13" but there is no 13th track listed. Bubba73 You talkin' to me? 19:43, 27 December 2023 (UTC)Reply

Anniversary Tracks

edit

Can we please re-add the anniversary track listings? The additional songs are different enough that they should be allowed to be included as they feature songs and demos not on the original album. 13thpunxfromthesun (talk) 17:57, 21 July 2024 (UTC)Reply

Radio friendly unit shifter

edit

I checked the article history for Radio Friendly Unit Shifter and it was an all-out war. I guess there is no hope of an independent article for this song after all that? Antignomi (talk) 19:32, 8 August 2024 (UTC)Reply

All that back-and-forth reverting was 10-20 years ago. Ancient history.
Whether this song deserves an article depends on a few things. See WP:NSONG. Popcornfud (talk) 22:10, 8 August 2024 (UTC)Reply
