False Equivalencies posted

edit

For some reason, some person has decided to post equivalent Naval ranks in the article, even though the Coast Guard pay grade link cited by them does not mention any such equivalency at all, and they seem to have made up the equivalencies according to their own preferences and convenience. I have corrected the ranks, and added the actual equivalency by government pay grade, but I would suggest that the section be locked from editing, to prevent vandalism, and false and misleading information being given out. It was suggested that the entry level position of Assistant Commandant is equivalent to a Naval Lieutenant, when it is actually in the same pay grade as a Sub Lieutenant, the entry level naval officers post. Again, Commandant JG's are in a lower scale of pay than commanders, but were sought to (wrongly be equated). I have corrected this, and added a link to the Naval pay scales. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Aspuar (talkcontribs) 16:59, 11 June 2013 (UTC)Reply

Fair use rationale for Image:Indian Coast Guard Ship.gif

edit

Image:Indian Coast Guard Ship.gif is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation can be deleted one week after being tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

Law enforcement agency or military unit?

edit

From the content of the article it seems that the Indian Coast Guard is in actuality a law enforcement agency and not a military unit. What is the relevance of {{Military of India}} to the arcticle? Peet Ern (talk) 04:19, 9 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

It is military. It is a part of the Indian armed foerces. It only has law enforcment type misisons —Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.244.141.229 (talk) 01:12, 20 August 2008 (UTC)Reply

It is the misconception that Indian Coast Guard is not part of Indian armed forces. This is indeed shameful and shabby response from resposible website like wikipedia that information inserted is not at all authentic. It should be verified the very time someone edits the important information about an armed force of a country.

Infobox edits

edit

Hemant Dabral I reverted your edits for the following reasons: First, whenever we mention Commanding officers, their awards should also be mentioned. This is a convention which is replicated across other Indian Armed Forces pages as well. Second, you are right that there are five regional commanders. But there is an additional commander which oversees the entire western seaboard. He is ranked higher than the regional commanders and is associated with the CHQ not a regional command. That is the reason he is mentioned there. In addition, I have done the following, I removed the wiki links for missing wiki pages but kept the service medals intact. Feel free to chime in here and discuss but do not revert edits without building consensus. Thanks. Adamgerber80 (talk) 12:01, 3 August 2017 (UTC)Reply

infobox military unit vs infobox law enforcement agency

edit

@Soap Boy 1: Refer to your edit, whereas you replace infobox from Infobox law enforcement agency to Infobox military unit just because you said military infobox suits better is on the edit summary.

Refer to usage section on Template:Infobox military unit: A military unit infobox may be used to summarize information about an individual military unit or formation, such as a regiment or division. and template documentation on Template:Infobox law enforcement agency: an infobox template for use in articles on individual law enforcement agencies. Soap Boy 1 himself acknowledge that Indian coast guard is a law enforcement agency on the edit summary.

Template:Infobox law enforcement agency have specific parameter for law enforcement agency that can be used on the article such as |speciality1= and |constitution1=.

Other coast guards article (that is not part of armed forces/military) also uses Template:Infobox law enforcement agency, such as Japan Coast Guard, Swedish Coast Guard, Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency, Korea Coast Guard, and etc.

I couldn't find any rationale that justify your statement on edit summary that military infobox suits better is. Hence that edit will be reverted. However, if you have better rationale other than military infobox suits better is then you may discuss it here. Ckfasdf (talk) 02:29, 28 December 2022 (UTC)Reply
