Lack of references supporting data
editMost sources in the internet (IMDb, allmusic, discogs, etc) state he was born in 1941, Bronx or Brooklyn, New York and some even on April 8. There must surely be a big mix with J.J. Jackson (media personality)'s data. The question is how do we come to November 8, 1942 and Gillett, Arkansas? None of the sources stated contain this information. - It is becoming clear (to me!) that in fact there is confusion between three people - the singer who is the subject of this article; another singer popular in Brazil and known there as J.J. Jackson; and J.J. Jackson (media personality). The evidence is, I think, that this J. J. Jackson was born Jerome Louis Jackson in Brooklyn and brought up in the Bronx. That is supported by Joel Whitburn's Top R&B Singles, Billboard, Allmusic, and by interesting and apparently well-sourced posts here. They almost all state, as well, that he was born on April 8, 1941. I think that is the correct information - this J J Jackson, born 1941 in Brooklyn.
- The other singer called J.J. Jackson was apparently born Leo Robinson, in Gillette, Arkansas, in November 1942, and changed his name "at the behest of a Brazilian TV station for whom he'd written a theme tune to a successful TV show. Why they chose this name and why Robinson went along with it is unclear." Here is his website confirming some of that information - J.J. Jackson do Brasil.
- Now, there was also J.J. Jackson (media personality), who died in March 2004, apparently aged 62. Here is his obituary - unfortunately not giving his birth details. His biography at FindaGrave - often a useful source of information, but user-generated - gives his date of birth as April 8, 1941, but no place of birth. This bio gives the same date, but born in the Bronx - as does this bio. It does seem highly unlikely that he was born on precisely the same date as the J. J. Jackson in this article - but I can't find any definitive evidence to prove or disprove it.
- So far as this article is concerned, I think that all we can say is that he was born in Brooklyn, not Arkansas, and that the balance of evidence is that he was born in 1941. Confused = Ghmyrtle (talk) 17:03, 20 August 2016 (UTC)
