WP:MILHIST Assessment

edit

Some very nice work, and surely B-class for length and detail. But I am puzzled by the second sentence of the article: "It was based in North Africa and Tunisia during the first, victories year of the Afrika Korps." What does "first, victories year" mean? Should that read differently somehow? LordAmeth 18:45, 6 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

The claims/loss table

edit

I presume that the missing III./JG 27 record is the in effect the discrepancy between the agrregate totals of I gruppe and the II and the grand Total? I won't change it until that assumption is validated by the original contributor.

Secondly- the comment on JG 27's overclaiming taken from Brown's book is in my opinion simply his interpretation of the statistics, and as all fighter units can be accused of overclaiming, this pargraph could be inserted into all air fighting squadron/unit history entries in Wikipedia! Surely this should form part of a more specific enrty/ Harryurz (talk) 19:09, 10 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

'Overclaiming'

edit

The flow of the article seems adequate, apart from the sudden diversion into the merits (or otherwise) of JG 27's claims for aircraft destroyed in September 1942.If all are agreeable I will remove the overclaiming pparagraph from the main body of the text and insert into the appropriate scetion. The material was restored in violation of WP:BURDEN; I'm preserving it here by proving this link. Adding from section "Overclaiming": cited to a fan site or uncited: diff. Adding from section "Statistics" (completely uncited, possibly dubious): diff. K.e.coffman (talk) 23:21, 12 March 2017 (UTC)Reply

Preserving here by providing this link. My rationale was: "c/e; npov; nn individuals; excessive intricate detail unlikely to be available in secondary RS". Please let me know if there are any concerns. --K.e.coffman (talk) 03:35, 18 April 2018 (UTC)Reply
The charge of DELIBERATE overclaiming by some pilots of JG 27 (i.e. 4. Staffel) is discussed by Shore et al.'s A History of the Mediterranean Air War...: Volume Two - five aircraft of the Staffel were observed by Hans-Arnold Stahlschmidt, a pilot of another Staffel shooting up a stretch of desert, with the pilots (including Karl-Heinz Bendert) then returning to base and claiming 12 British fighters shot down. The matter was hushed up, and the responsible pilots leaving the unit when they could be spared from battle. Shores states that Eduard Neumann, commander of JG 27 confirmed the story and insisted that it be included in Shore's book Fighters over the Desert.Nigel Ish (talk) 20:19, 24 July 2018 (UTC)Reply
