Spliting This Into Individual Games?

edit

just an idea, but prehaps I could help to make two seperate pages. JA and JA2 especialy have many true to life items and roles which I think could deserve some cross linking to the topics discussed in the game. Ambidextros 05:51, 18 April 2006 (UTC)Reply

I'd like to second this. There's no good way to add those infoboxes using the current format. SharkD 18:46, 4 April 2007 (UTC)Reply
Thirded(?). Definitely deserve separate entries for JA and JA2. Geoff B 13:18, 8 April 2007 (UTC)Reply
Went ahead and created the Jagged Alliance 2 page. Geoff B 14:41, 10 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

RPG?

edit

I noticed anon user 149.225.240.149 added this to the Category "Role-playing computer games". Does anyone else consider it an RPG? I've always considered it solely a strategy/tactical game. Frecklefoot | Talk 15:21, Aug 9, 2004 (UTC)

The sequel, JA2, was described as an RPG by its producers. It involves, among other things, talking to NPCs.Redxela Sinnak July 3, 2005 08:17 (UTC)

Section Issues

edit

This Wiki should be renamed "Jagged Alliance Series". "Jagged Alliance" should link to a description of the first title in the series. I would make these changes myself, but I don't want to break anything :P I may attempt this change at a later date (when I have fully educated myself on how to do this) Redxela Sinnak July 3, 2005 08:17 (UTC)

More correctly, it would be "Jagged Alliance series" (small 's' on series). It's easy to do, but you'd have to reword some of the article, too. Use the "Movie this page" button to move the article. Frecklefoot | Talk July 5, 2005 20:09 (UTC)

Someone should add that Jagged Alliance 3D is a remake of Jagged Alliance:Deadly Games. -Critter

Strategy First

edit

Can anyone else remember sirtech saying the rights were going to SF as SF would keep most of the staff on developing a sequel in house for SF? --Bastion 21:11, 4 January 2006 (UTC)Reply

According to this interview, Strategy First holds the license to distribute JA:3D in the United States. However, it's also obvious that since JA:3D is being developed by MiST Land, a Russian developer, and it's obvious from the screenshots that whoever's writing the dialogue has difficulty with English (i.e., it'll need to be localized), it doesn't seem that the Sirtech staff is involved in making the sequel. siafu 02:25, 2 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

JA for DS?

edit

Can somebody confirm that Strategy First indeed is going to port JA to the Nintendo DS? The announcement is from 2005 but no other news about this have been released so far. --sys2074 03:01, 29 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

Brigade E5

edit

Strategy First recently released this new game called Brigade E5: New Jagged Union that shares a great many traits with the Jagged Alliance series, especially in GUI. I'm not sure if this is the game MIST Land South/GFI was working on, as Brigade E5 was developed seemingly independently from SirTech by a Russian company named 1C or Aperion in some screenshots. I say "seemingly independent" because apparently the storyline and dialogue scripts were written by Shaun Lyng, a designer on the original JA series. I'm wondering if we should mention this somewhere in the article.--YoungFreud 18:06, 29 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

JA 3

edit

For those understanding Russian here is a new press-release on JA3. http://www.akella.com/ru/newsarchive/2006/12/08/ja3/ Probably that should be added in the article —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 83.237.200.91 (talk) 19:47, 8 December 2006 (UTC).Reply

No, we can't add it unless there is an English version of the statement. We don't link to foreign-language websites. It can be included on the Russian version of Wikipedia, however. What does it say? A synopsis of it can be included in the article and the site can be the reference for the material. — Frecklefoot | Talk 15:50, 11 December 2006 (UTC)Reply
Google has a beta for Russian to English. click here for translation. It sounds like boilerplate marketing mumbo-jumbo.

Port to SDL

edit

The exists an port do SDL, should the article mention it? [1] Plastefuchs

Steam

edit

The game is confirmed as broken and unpatched on steam. Why is this not allowed to be mentioned in the article?

Please review WP:RS and WP:NOR. Hope that helps. Regards, Nandesuka 00:54, 13 March 2007 (UTC)Reply
The game is still unplayable for about a year now (with the expansion lacking an option to save). I think this has such an impact on the series' reputation, that it suits to be mentioned on wikipedia. Another black page in this series' history, but that is just my opinion. -Sebastiaan —Preceding unsigned comment added by 80.60.180.238 (talkcontribs)
If you read the two links you'd see why we don't mention it. Find some reliable sources that mention it and it can go in. — Frecklefσσt | Talk 11:44, 10 August 2007 (UTC)Reply
A massive number of players complaining and a VALVe employee and the Strategy First Support recognizing this problem seems reliable to me. They never gave an official statement, but employee's of both VALVe as Strategy First talk about the problems on the forum threads mentioned in the article. -Sebastiaan —Preceding unsigned comment added by 80.60.180.238 (talkcontribs)
A forum thread simply isn't a reliable source. Nandesuka 20:15, 13 August 2007 (UTC)Reply
I agree forums aren't reliable, but I guess that's why he mentioned that there was no official statement. But on 2 forums employees do indeed admit the problems mentioned. Here the official Strategy First Support account on the forum admits: http://www.strategyfirst.com/forum/cgi/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=46;t=000398 and here does an VALVe employee admit: http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?t=555965&page=2 (http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showpost.php?p=6329496&postcount=21). As you see GregW, a VALVe employee admits the problem, but also says it should be fixed. As you can see, none of the customers (including me) has a working JA2 on Steam. Imo this makes it pretty reliable. VALVe admitting the problem and offering refunds (although they say it should have been fixed) and Strategy First saying VALVe needs to do an update to solve the problems.
Little addition: http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showpost.php?p=5246663&postcount=5 here they talk about a refund in more words. Posted by another VALVe employee, in the upper right corner is a link to the full thread. Also note the date to see for how long this is going on. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 212.123.198.147 (talkcontribs)
Academic Matters and The Washington Post don't care, so it will never be added. SharkD 05:07, 17 October 2007 (UTC)Reply
It's throughout the internet that you cannot play the Steam version as are the bugs on it. The fact that the mainstream media has not picked this up (why would they?) doesn't make the content any less reliable, or in breach of WP:RS and WP:NOR. Wikipedia should be flexible enough to pick up the 'buzz' on the internet without needing for it to be reproduced in the media Calanen (talk) 09:53, 18 May 2008 (UTC)CalanenReply
I have the JA2 steam version, works fine. Not only that, it's possible to patch it with the 1.13 mod which further fixes any bugs that may resided in the downloaded version (1.12). If you want to play JA2, buy the gold edition off steam and patch it with the latest 1.13 release. (google for "JA2 1.13" for more info). - AvihooI —Preceding unsigned comment added by 77.126.37.245 (talk) 17:40, 4 September 2009 (UTC)Reply

Fansites

edit

Can we just nix this section? None of them seem all that notable. Our policy is pretty clear about excluding them unless they are very notable. Any of these can be found with Google. I think we should get rid of it. Anyone object? — Frecklefσσt | Talk 18:01, 16 November 2007 (UTC)Reply

Innacuracy

edit

The first paragraph states that from JA2 the series has been DirectX, however I'm sure that there was a Linux version of JA2... —Preceding unsigned comment added by 210.11.83.6 (talk) 01:02, 17 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

You are correct. SharkD (talk) 02:31, 17 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

Last/Latest Version?

edit

I am wondering what was the last/latest version of Jagged Alliance: Deadly Games, Jagged Alliance 2, Jagged Alliance 2: Unfinished Business, Jagged Alliance 2 Gold, Jagged Alliance 2 Gold: Unfinished Business, Jagged Alliance 2: Wildfire 5, and Jagged Alliance 2: Wildfire 6, or if there is a later version (and/or patch) available.

Most software articles (even other games) show what version is the last/latest, so this will help the article as well.

Also note that it is shown on the first Jagged Alliance's Wikipedia article.

JA2 1.13 project

edit

Why isn't there mention of the JA2 1.13 project which generally added dozens of features, made a lot of bugfixes and even incorporated multiplayer game into JA2? As far as I see it, this mod changed JA2 more than any other major project (including wildfire and other mods). A must look: [2] —Preceding unsigned comment added by 77.126.37.245 (talk) 17:35, 4 September 2009 (UTC)Reply

There's enough coverage in Jagged_Alliance_2#v1.13. —  HELLKNOWZ  ▎TALK 20:31, 9 October 2010 (UTC)Reply

Ja2: WIldfire inaccuracy

edit

I think the sentence about wildfire "Wildfire has not altered the game engine or controls" is inaccurate i think. I have not played v5 but v6 from zuzzex definitely changed engine and controls. The engine now supports rather 1024x768 than the previous JA2 games which used 800x600. This allows seeing more terrain on screen at a time. Also the limitation for a team has been altered from only 6 persons per squad to a total of 10 which kinda advantage if you prefer to attack with more than 6 people. I think you can count both as game controls or am I totally wrong about this? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 87.189.208.228 (talk) 17:10, 1 June 2010 (UTC)Reply

Faked Image?

edit

I believe the image used for the Deadly Games section has been faked through image manipulation, or else comes from a customized mission. The text within the image, here[[3]], purports to show a mission taking place on "Shadow Moses Island"; this is a location from another game franchise entirely, and though I cannot corroborate the information within the game as I do not own Deadly Games, a web search shows that no mission within the games bears that particular connection. 128.54.121.44 (talk) 10:00, 10 January 2012 (UTC)Reply

JA: Back In Action

edit

As of February 2012 a new version of the game has been released: Jagged Alliance: Back In Action. There's apparently also an expansion for this. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Svendhhh (talkcontribs) 08:34, 15 October 2012 (UTC)Reply

– Seems like a clear-cut case of a series page that should be moved to the primary name per VG series guidelines. ZXCVBNM (TALK) 05:13, 4 August 2020 (UTC)Relisting. —usernamekiran (talk) 19:33, 11 August 2020 (UTC)Reply

  • Oppose. The original Jagged Alliance was the most notable game in the series, so this is more 2 games in the series and a bunch of half-games of random failed spin-offs and canceled development projects. Note that the 2007 game was just a port of Jagged Alliance, Jagged Alliance 3 never came out, and the Kickstarter'd Jagged Alliance went nowhere and doesn't even have an article. I suppose Jagged Alliance: Deadly Games might count as a third, but my understanding was that was something of an "expansion pack" that just used the Jagged Alliance 1 system but with more maps, for the most part. Doesn't have a particularly huge WP article regardless. SnowFire (talk) 03:05, 5 August 2020 (UTC)Reply
  • I'm going to support, because the alternative would be to move Jagged Alliance (series) to Jagged Alliance (video game series) which seems like a more awkward solution than moving the "franchise"/"series" article to the base title. --IJBall (contribstalk) 21:45, 22 August 2020 (UTC)Reply

– Now that Jagged Alliance 3 has been released, there are 6 articles for other games in the series beyond the first game, I think this series page is now the WP:PRIMARYTOPIC. Also, both have low page views but the series page has over twice the views of the first game: [4]. --Mika1h (talk) 14:23, 2 June 2024 (UTC)Reply
