About the Page name
editAs far as I can find, he never called himself ", Sr." This was a differentator applied on the congressional biography web pages, and has propagated to other internet sites. I do think we should keep his son at ", Jr.". as a way to keep them apart. I plan to clean up redirects when get around to his biography. Thanks, Lou I 21:32, 17 May 2004 (UTC)
This note seems quite correct, as James A. (1767-1815) was, in fact, the son of a James A. (1738-1770), and known as the younger when his father was remembered. Later in his career one of his sons, also James A. (1799-1888), was known as the younger. I have seen biographers sometimes use James A. Jr. for James (1799-1888), sometimes James A. II for James (1767-1815) and James A. III for James (1799-1888), but never James A. Sr. for James (1767-1815). In my opinion the only way to confidently keep them all straight is to use the dates. stilltim 12:21, 6 January 2006 (UTC)
