Need to check year of birth
editI changed the date of birth from 1820 to 1920, since it would make more sense. However, I know nothing about this. Danny 03:42, 9 November 2006 (UTC)
- I just corrected the birth date from the NYT obit Flaviolae 03:47, 9 November 2006 (UTC)
improving the article
editHi -- G716 asked me to look at the article on its way toward improved GA status. Here are some preliminary comments, and I'll add it to my working list.
- I don't believe the infobox is necessary; especially in an article without illustrations, it is visually distracting and doesn't really add. YMMV.
- Not done - agree, but still looking for a usable picture —G716 <T·C> 00:58, 6 January 2008 (UTC)
- The lede, I believe, could be considerably lengthened, as could the article generally. Other information that could go in the lede would be her life-long role in abortion & reproductive care; she founded a clinic, and also voluntarily participated in abortion rights litigation (in the 1981 suit).
- Done—G716 <T·C> 00:58, 6 January 2008 (UTC)
- Most of the citations and references relate to her academic/research work as a clinical physician, yet there is very little of that discussion in the article as a whole. I would include a section that summarizes that material.
- Minor style - when reflists get long I prefer 2-column style.
- Done—G716 <T·C> 00:58, 6 January 2008 (UTC)
- I would consider a biographical timeline approach for the article. The first section would be "early life and education" and if there is anything about her early life that could be added. Then her work in the 40s founding a clinic, practice work that led to research and publications; then a section on her growing abortion rights advocacy, beginning with the 1970 case, adding in the founding of the clinic, and later involvement in litigation. A lot of this would just be re-titling the subheadings to create a sense of a chronological flow and episodes in her life.
- I'm thinking about this, maybe someone else could be bold and try another layout. —G716 <T·C> 00:58, 6 January 2008 (UTC)
More later; I've got to go do family errands now. --Lquilter (talk) 20:15, 27 December 2007 (UTC)
- Thanks for your comments. I'll continue to work on the article as time permits—G716 <T·C> 04:26, 3 January 2008 (UTC)
