Non-free images

edit

I am about to remove the images from the article. The reason is that as a matter of policy Wikipedia highly restricts the use of non-free images (those not in the public domain and not licensed to allow reuse by anyone for anything). See Wikipedia:Non-free content criteria for all the restrictions. The reason for this policy is that Wikipedia has a goal of creating reusable content, and the use of non-free images hampers reusability.

In particular, one of the restrictions is, “Non-free content is used only if its presence would significantly increase readers’ understanding of the topic, and its omission would be detrimental to that understanding.” It seems to me that none of the images is necessary for reader understanding of the article.

The images could be used if they were free, i.e. in the public domain or licensed under a free license. The images may be old enough that their copyrights have expired:

  • If they were published before 1923,
  • If they were published before 1978 without a copyright notice, or
  • If they were not published before 2003 and were
    • Taken by a photographer who died before 1939 or
    • Taken by anonymous photographer before 1889.

If the museum would like to license low resolution copies under a free license like {{cc-by-3.0}}, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission. —teb728 t c 23:35, 14 April 2009 (UTC)Reply

Possible COI

edit

As the main contributor to this article is called User:Jekyllmuseum, I am concerned about a possible conflict of interest with regards to the editing of this page and its contents. I've looked through the article briefly and haven't seen anything that immediately stands out but it would be nice if Jekyllmuseum would be so kind as to state his/her connection with the actual museum. At File:Horton House image from 1927.jpg he/she said, “I am the Museum Specialist at the Jekyll Island Museum and ... an employee of the curatorial department.” —teb728 t c 01:37, 16 April 2009 (UTC)Reply
