I suggest that the web page title of John Devereux, 2nd Baron Devereux, should be changed to John Devereux, 1st Baron Devereux.

The Genealogical History of the Dormant, Abeyant, Forfeited, and Extinct Peerages of the British Empire by Sir Bernard Burke (Baltimore: Genealogical Publishing Co, 1978) discusses this family on page 169. It indicates that the John Devereux (of Whitechurch Maund) discussed in the web page was created 1st Baron Devereux by writ 28 September, 1384, and his son, also named John, succeeded him as 2nd Baron Devereux upon his death in 1394.

The peerage does indicate his ancestor, William Devereux (great-grandfather). William Devereux was called to parliament as Lord Devereux in 1298, but this is considered a separate creation in the published peerages. The Barony did not pass to William's son, or any of the intervening generations. Also, the caput of the Barony (Lyonshall manor) was lost to the Devereux family in William's lifetime, and was not regained until after the John Devereux (of Whitechurch Maund) above was created a baron.
