Pronunciation of name

edit

We have pronunciation for "Ke" and "Quan" but not for "Huy". Please add it. —Quantling (talk | contribs) 20:52, 15 March 2024 (UTC)Reply

"Quan" or "Huy" for the body of the article?

edit

The line at the top says "In accordance with Vietnamese custom, this person should be referred to by the given name, Huy.", but then the article refers to him as "Quan", e.g. "As a child actor, Quan rose to fame playing Short Round". Should this be a find and replace? 173.49.228.138 (talk) 15:42, 26 March 2024 (UTC)Reply

I've removed that template, since the subject is American, and sources refer to him by his surnname, Quan, not Huy or Ke. Yeeno (talk) 22:49, 26 March 2024 (UTC)Reply

Birth date / year

edit

I removed the birth date, which was cited to WP:IMDB, a source that is not usable for that sort of sensitive biographical detail. Does anyone know of stronger sources, ones that complies with WP:DOB?

In the meantime, we have a well-sourced year of birth, 1971. One IP and Corrigo98 have said that Quan disputes this, saying he was born in 1970. Corrigo, could you tell us approximately when in the podcast Quan talks about this? Firefangledfeathers (talk / contribs) 14:23, 18 July 2024 (UTC)Reply

Nevermind, Corrigo. I found a transcript and got a timestamp. I've noted in the article that he was born in either 1970 or 1971. Firefangledfeathers (talk / contribs) 14:56, 18 July 2024 (UTC)Reply

Quan's ethnicity

edit

He was born in Saigon, Vietnam (present-day Ho Chi Minh City). He and his family fled from Vietnam in 1978 (7 years after he was born in Vietnam). So isn't he ethnically Vietnamese-American of Hoa descent? His citizenship is American, of course, but we cannot ignore his ethnicity and where he was born. He was not born in the United States to be only American. He is Vietnamese-American. His name "Quan Ke Huy" is Vietnamese. RegularboyA (talk) 17:58, 22 October 2024 (UTC)Reply
