Gear?
editDoes anyone have any idea what synth Justice uses for the deep bass found in the songs "Let There Be Light" and "D.A.N.C.E."? I'm fairly certain it's the exact same synth both times. Another version of the sound (though highly distorted) may be the bass used in "Waters of Nazareth." I'm dying to know. Actually, they use a bass guitar that's heavily edited in Cubase. I asked Gaspard and he said that they use a Juno 6 for a lot of stuff, he also said they use Cubase SX for all their songwriting and arrangement. I would think that a heavily distorted bass guitar would account for most of their bass sounds.
Christian Dance?
editMany people have inquired as to whether Justice are a "christian" act.
Nothing actually indicates they are christian other than their image which is far more likely to be employed for originality, as well as song titles and the genre on their myspace (which quite simply seems to relate to image).
Common sense would only imply that assuming their christianity is, for lack of a better term, silly and completely takes away from the point of their image; to enhance their music. Having said that, there is an interview or two around that would confirm that (in somewhat their own terms) that they haven't been practicing christians since childhood, and their image refers more to how their music in a club can bring people together like a church.
Their my-space says they are christian club. (http://www.myspace.com/etjusticepourtous). —Preceding unsigned comment added by 174.3.90.40 (talk) 03:06, 24 July 2009 (UTC)

Metallica remix
editAlthough a remixed version of 'Master of puppets' has been played at live shows, no mp3 is seen to be available which is the general outlet for remixes and has been the case for all previous justice remixes. Is it justified (no pun intended) to list this as a Remix of the band. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 58.160.99.7 (talk) 14:36, 4 January 2008 (UTC)
Its definitely not a remix, the sidechained the kick and played with highpass filters. But that's basically it. -anon —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.83.254.52 (talk) 20:29, 14 June 2008 (UTC)

Pronunciation
editPronunciation - is it worth including a mention of how the band's name is to be pronounced - ie, is it as in English or as in French? I'd add it myself but don't actually know... —Preceding unsigned comment added by 128.243.220.42 (talk) 17:45, 5 June 2008 (UTC)
The pronunciation in the article seems redundant: Justice (pronounced Justice). Shouldn't there be some phonetics in there? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 211.30.180.134 (talk) 00:46, 12 July 2008 (UTC)
- I think instead of Just-EECE it should say something like "juice-TEECE", to get the right "jus" in the French Justice. Although, I don't think pronounciation matters; everyone English-speaking pronounces it in English (including TV shows, etc) and everyone French speaks it French. —Preceding unsigned comment added by M.nelson (talk • contribs) 04:20, 13 July 2008 (UTC)
Genre
editSorry if i get opinionated, but i constantly see their genre labeled as "Electro House". I know that electro house is an umbrella genre to label basically any popular independant electronic artist, and acts like Digitalism and Boys Noize who are closely associated with Justice fit well within the genre. However, as a sum off their musical parts i really don't believe that Justice can be called Electro House at all. Their music lacks heavy basslines, heavy sequenced beats and repeadative synthesised melodies. Instead, the music can be much more closely identified with earlier Electro production styles, with instrumentation of disco and funk rock and some examples of synthpop. The music, because of organic drumbeats in "improvised" sequences and organic funk basslines identifies more with pop music of the 70s and 80s, with the occassional heavier techno production (the main example being Waters of Nazereth). Overall, House has a cleaner, more synthesised, more repeadative and more bass-heavy sound by far than almost any Justice track. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 121.209.194.112 (talk) 13:42, 11 July 2008 (UTC)
- I strongly disagree. I believe that Justice does have elements of House because of the Disco beats in the background of numerous songs. However, rather than normal house, they can be considered Electro-House, which is not an umbrella term in the least. They should be considered electro House for their elements of house, mixed in with raw beats, heavy drums, and heavy bass lines (which are all prevalent). They cannot be labeled as Disco because none of their songs are truly disco, but rather House (which is similar). You also need to take into consideration that they are also Christian-Club. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Jordanscales (talk • contribs) 18:15, 12 July 2008 (UTC)
- I disagree with alot of that, but the Christian-Club thing takes the cake. Does no one get jokes anymore? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 122.106.195.198 (talk) 13:28, 14 July 2008 (UTC)
- Of the major genres or subgenres I suppose Electro House is the closest to what they're doing. I personally like referring to them as Electro-Rock or just French House (which obviously alludes to Daft Punk). In the end, who cares? The less catch-all labels we put on artists the better, IMO. Just make sure the detailed description of their style or "sound" is comprehensive. 76.176.28.68 (talk) 06:15, 10 September 2010 (UTC)
Live Setup Images
editI'm kind of new to Wikipedia, so I hope this is the place to post this kind of info.
I came across some images of Justice's live setup:

The Party/tthheeppaarrttyy
editJust wondering why the title of this song seems to switch (looking at the history anyway). According to the tracklisting of †, it's spelt Tthhee Ppaarrttyy. londonsista Prod 20:14, 19 December 2008 (UTC)
- I'm going to change the spelling of that track, the following sources (Amazon, Discogs, Rolling Stone, and even Justice's own MySpace page) appear to have it spelt "Tthhee Ppaarrttyy", and the album article itself states that spelling is per the linear notes. londonsista Prod 20:32, 19 December 2008 (UTC)
Link removed
editI removed the following link:
Clicking the link just takes you to a webpage stating "Invalid Album ID for this user". I'll try to see if I can get a workable link, but my knowledge of MySpace ain't too great! Anyway, just adding the link here incase it's just a temporary thing/someone else can get it to work. (ETA: I think possibly the image in question is only viewable to MySpace users/friends or has been deleted?) londonsista Prod 20:42, 19 December 2008 (UTC)

"Band"?
editThey aren't a band. -- Erroneuz1 (talk) 02:56, 22 April 2009 (UTC)
- Wikipedia's article for a band states "musical ensemble is a group of two or more musicians who perform instrumental or vocal music" which means Justice is a band regardless if they're better known as a duo. Also, following naming conventions on Wikipedia, music gets grouped as (band), (album), (song) when needed. (WP:NAMING#MUSIC) - so Justice being placed as an article under "Justice (French band)" is appropriate. Douglasr007 (talk) 16:48, 22 April 2009 (UTC)
- Perhaps you could explain then why "band" is better than "group" even, unless for some reason this does not consist of a group. We don't say "D12 is a hip-hop band", we call them a group. This is not a "band", that's a bit too much. -- Erroneuz1 (talk) 02:32, 23 April 2009 (UTC)
- but the article merely states this as a duo...I don't see the problem here Douglasr007 (talk) 00:34, 30 April 2009 (UTC)

839
editI noticed that this article states Justice have an new album either in the making or already released titled "839". I found the album on spotify and it seems like a collaboration between Justice and an artist called Metro. However, the style of the album seems very different to that of (Cross) and the album cover for 839 has "Justice//Metro" written on it. Can we get a confirmation that it is the same Justice on both albums? There are a lot of artists around named Justice.86.154.69.44 (talk) 16:53, 6 July 2010 (UTC)
- I think that's someone else that records music under the name justice. Annoying of spotify not to be able to differntiate though, same thing happens with 'The Libertines'. cya 94.193.10.120 (talk) 15:52, 16 October 2010 (UTC)

New album tracklist
editThe part of the article where the tracklist of their next album is looks badly formatted and doesn't belong on this page. I edited it out, and replaced it with a paragraph about information on the upcoming album, properly cited, only to have it reverted back to the tracklist in the middle of the page. If you are determined to put the tracklist up, create a new page called something like "Upcoming Justice Album", because it doesn't belong on this page. It looks ugly, and the text before it reads like an ad. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 211.30.196.70 (talk) 05:08, 22 July 2011 (UTC)

Unreleased album added to the discography
editSomeone add an new album in the discography "Access All Arenas" and remove "Helix". The reference point to the Ed Banger records page (in French)[1]. A new album, "Access All Arenas" is announced for March 2013. Should we add unreleased album? I saw other pages doing it but I don't like it, especially if there is no indication to tell that the album is not yet available. I will added back Helix, there is absolutely no reason to remove it since it appear in the catalog of Ed Banger records. For now I removed the new album, let's discuss the issue before adding it back. Armelbd (talk) 01:42, 3 February 2013 (UTC)
- Helix is not an album, it's EP. Main wiki article contains albums and link to the discography page, where's listed all ep's. For "Access All Arenas", I think that unreleased stuff have to be added only if article for that stuff exists, or just before it's released. Solidest (talk) 13:52, 3 February 2013 (UTC)
- Ok it makes sense Armelbd (talk) 23:26, 3 February 2013 (UTC)

Notes?
edit"The duo's music often includes bass slapping and musical notes such as do, re, sol, etc. "

- Oppose the guidance on WP:BANDDAB says "Use either '(band)' or '(duo)' when the musical ensemble is a duet." Maybe we should remove the (duo) option as it adds nothing In ictu oculi (talk) 07:56, 29 July 2018 (UTC)
- Comment - a band makes it more imprecise because there could be 2 to an infinite number of members whereas duo shows there is only 2 members in the group. A band is defined as "a group of instrumentalists playing music of a specialized type". This music group is a duo of electronic musicians who are not instrumentalists (players of a musical instrument). In popular culture, a band is typically a group of 4-5 people who sing, play the guitar, drums, bass, etc. Calling a group of 2 musicians a band is simply inaccurate and improper although literally they could fit the scope. @Chubbles: @Dekimasu: @In ictu oculi: please consider reconsidering. Not only (duo) makes it easier to categorize music groups consisting of 2 members, it also distinguishes electronic music groups from regular music groups. The editor whose username is Z0 08:06, 29 July 2018 (UTC)
- 1) To this point, I think everyone has been fairly accepting of the fact that you filed 30 individual move requests instead of a multimove. However, please understand that it's annoying to get over 30 page notifications for the same comment–and then getting 30 edit conflicts after you edit the comment with the ping in it. If the issues at hand are the same, please pick one talk page and have the rest of the discussion there.
- 2) There is nothing inaccurate or improper about calling a band with two members a band. Musical ensemble#Two parts: "Examples of two-member bands are Japandroids, Local H, Pet Shop Boys, Hella, Flight of the Conchords, Death from Above 1979, Francis Xavier, I Set My Friends On Fire, Middle Class Rut, The Pity Party, Little Fish, The White Stripes, Big Business, Two Gallants, Lightning Bolt, The Ting Tings, The Black Box Revelation, Satyricon, The Black Keys, Tenacious D, Simon and Garfunkel, Hall & Oates, Johnossi, The Pack A.D., Air Supply and Royal Blood. When electronic sequencers became widely available in the 1980s, this made it easier for two-member bands to add in musical elements that the two band members were not able to perform. Sequencers allowed bands to pre-program some elements of their performance, such as an electronic drum part and a synth-bass line. Two-member pop music bands such as Soft Cell, Blancmange, Yazoo and Erasure used pre-programmed sequencers." In fact, this shows why it is easier to have two-person bands when electronic music is involved. As Chubbles stated, electronic music is music made using electronic musical instruments. It isn't necessary to require a band to be analog.
- 3) The proposal referenced a particular naming convention, but the moves do not follow from that naming convention. Dekimasuよ! 08:24, 29 July 2018 (UTC)
- Comment. Reply to Dekimasu: I'm not saying a two-member band is incorrect but it's just less preferred compared to duo. Musical ensemble#Two parts says two-member rock and pop bands are relatively rare and they are mostly rock and pop groups not electronic music duos that are the subjects of these move discussions. Wikipedia's preference is usually the one most commonly used. Bands play musical instruments unlike electronic musicians who use digital audio workstation (DAW) to produce their music. DAW is not a musical instrument but a computer software. As for the naming convention, it did say to use either "(band)" or "(duo)" when the musical ensemble is a duet, as in duo for the duet and band for others. That precisely supports my argument so I'm not sure why you said "the moves do not follow from that naming convention". The editor whose username is Z0 08:48, 29 July 2018 (UTC)
- Comment That's a wide generalization for electronic musicians to even state for an argument. All of these proposals should just be closed because it's confusing to follow, there's a proposal to change the guideline for naming conventions, and we're going to have the same discussion on every target page. – TheGridExe (talk) 18:28, 30 July 2018 (UTC)
- Comment the discussion for the general issue of whether electronic duos are accurately described as bands seems to be coalescing at Talk:The Ghost (Faroese band). Chubbles (talk) 10:37, 29 July 2018 (UTC)
- Oppose per Dekimasu and In ictu oculi. We don't have to change every instance of "(band)" to "(duo)" where the band has two people in it just to be specific. Ss112 16:56, 29 July 2018 (UTC)
