Missing K. 376–381

edit

All the K numbers between 376 and 381 inclusive are missing and this seems to go back right to the beginning of this article 15 years ago. Why is this? Can anyone fill in or explain the missing information? Thanks. Hyperman 42 (talk) 17:36, 19 November 2023 (UTC)Reply

I wonder if there are any other missing blocks? The eearliest list was not numerical; it got reorganised but this gap was not filled. There do appear to be works within this number range e.g. the Violin Sonata K380. But there is also a report of a Clarinet Quartet (not Quintet) also numbered K380. Is it spurious, or an arrangement? I see K. 376, 377, 378, 379 and 380 in the list (Violin sonatas Nos. 24, 25, 26, 27, 28). K. 381 is listed as Sonata in D for Piano Four-Hands. -- Michael Bednarek (talk) 01:44, 20 November 2023 (UTC)Reply
Make sure to sort by K1, not K6. All catalog numbers are unique, so if something got renumbered it's simply missing in the K6 list (as it has a different number there). ♫ Melodia Chaconne ♫ (talk) 06:04, 20 November 2023 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for the info. I simply went to the main wikipage originally and that already seemed to be sorted by the second column, K6, which was what confused me. It seems to be the default, but should the default be to sort by K1? Though I suppose the most up-to-date list is logical. Hadn't realised I could sort the columns myself - thanks for the info. I can now see that the complete block missing out of the K6 list anyway has had various renumberings, mainly as K374a-f. Hyperman 42 (talk) 17:37, 20 November 2023 (UTC)Reply
I'm also still intrigued by the so-called Clarinet Quartet K380, which appears on at least one CD coupled with the Clarinet Quintet, and also once on YouTube. But the K number clashes with the Violin Sonata No. 28. If anyone can throw any light on this I'd be grateful. Hyperman 42 (talk) 17:56, 20 November 2023 (UTC)Reply
A bit of googling indicates that a Clarinet Quartet in E-flat major is an arrangement by Johann Anton André of Mozart's Violin Sonata, K. 380. -- Michael Bednarek (talk) 01:10, 21 November 2023 (UTC)Reply

Ninth edition published yesterday

edit

So I guess we need to do some updating. Zaslaw has been working on this one since 1993. :)

(The updating should not be that bad, since if I understand correctly, this time there are no renumberings, just additions.) Double sharp (talk) 02:02, 20 September 2024 (UTC)Reply

Though from what I had gathered over the years, and the article confirms it, they are reverting to the original numbering. I was wondering how that'd work but apparently it's just not chronological any more. Ooof, gonna have to retag a lot of digital files... ♫ Melodia Chaconne ♫ (talk) 04:50, 20 September 2024 (UTC)Reply

The full list is available here. Double sharp (talk) 07:08, 20 September 2024 (UTC)Reply

I've put the new pieces (up to KV 721) into the list, and added a KV9 column. Double sharp (talk) 16:09, 20 September 2024 (UTC)Reply
P.S. The authenticity (or not) of KV 712, 713, and 715 is discussed in Dexter Edge's 2001 article Attributing Mozart (i): Three Accompanied Recitatives. Double sharp (talk) 12:21, 21 September 2024 (UTC)Reply

,01 etc.

edit

So some of the new numbering in K9 have a format that includes a ",01" ",02" etc. Such as 408. I'm assuming this is for works that were previously separate but as now considered a single work, and the use of comma is a European thing rather than the decimal we use in North America (thus it'd be 408.01, etc). ♫ Melodia Chaconne ♫ (talk) 17:08, 3 November 2024 (UTC)Reply

Perhaps indeed. But given that even the English-language site uses the commas, I think it's better to leave it as it is. Double sharp (talk) 06:44, 4 November 2024 (UTC)Reply
I was more asking what they mean, since there's no explanation anywhere. ♫ Melodia Chaconne ♫ (talk) 13:20, 4 November 2024 (UTC)Reply

Changing 'initial' sorting to K9?

edit

Right now the default is still for K6, and if you try and sort by K9 it's not in true numerical order, but rather all the non-ordinal numbers are interspersed with the first 9 numbers. Any way to fix this? ♫ Melodia Chaconne ♫ (talk) 06:21, 4 November 2024 (UTC)Reply

I have no idea. For some reason the sortkeys I provided are not working as they should. And yes, I think the default ought to be by K9, but it seemed like a lot of work to reorder the list. Adding the new inclusions was enough for me. :( Double sharp (talk) 06:44, 4 November 2024 (UTC)Reply
