Eerie??

edit

'The island has had an eerie image for years' - We need to do something about this - 'Eerie' is hardly encyclopædic, but I can't quite think how we should write this instead. Any ideas?--Bwmodular 10:01, 23 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

I've copyedited it. Feel free to check. ;-) — Indon (reply) — 10:37, 23 January 2007 (UTC)Reply
Yes, notorious is much better. However 'high profile corruptors' isn't quite right. I don't think you'd ever refer to someone involved in corruption as a corruptor. I'm trying to think of a better way to phrase this, but go for it of you get there before me! --Bwmodular 11:18, 23 January 2007 (UTC)Reply
Ah, yes, your term is better. High profile corruption cases, that's what I meant. :-) — Indon (reply) —

Kambangan Island

edit

The real name is 'Nusa Kambangan Island'. Nusa Kambangan is the name of the island. If this article has been written by other country, please change that tittle. All people can say 'Kambangan Island', but in here, it is not 'Kambangan Island'. It's 'Nusa Kambangan Island'. I am Indonesian, and I know about that island. -- Cuskar (talk) 02:48, 4 March 2015 (UTC)Reply

Hmm. Perhaps. It's a bit difficult to get this right. The island is often just referred to as "Nusakambangan" in the media. But to be strictly correct, the media should refer to "Pulau Nusakambangan". However to refer to "Pulau Nusa Kambangan" is a bit odd, too, because both "pulau" and "nusa" mean "island. So references to "pulau Nusa Kambangan" can be (strictly) translated as "Kambangan Island Island". On balance, my own preference is to try to keep it simple and just to refer to the island (pulau) as "Nusakambangan". However, as Mas Cuskar points out, there are pros and cons about the issue. I think in the recent news the name "Nusa Kambangan" is more popularly used, while "Kambangan" island is less known. The term "nusa" is included in the name as in this news Washington Post: Welcome to ‘Execution Island,’ the surreal death site for Bali 9 drug smugglers I suggest to move the article name to Nusa Kambangan. The argument is, in English Wikipedia we did not change the Île-de-France into "Island of France" aren't we? so I think we should keep the "nusa" in name. Gunkarta  talk  12:20, 5 March 2015 (UTC)Reply

Just moved the page per common name, other example of Nusa (island) is Nusa Penida off shore Bali. Gunkarta  talk  12:05, 10 March 2015 (UTC)Reply
