Asian, African, and European influences continue to dominate the food scene in the region?
editFrom the article: A large dam on the Dnieper river was completed in 1964 built by thousands of immigrant workers. Because of these workers, a restaurant culture unique in Ukraine has emerged. A variety of diverse Asian, African, and European influences continue to dominate the food scene in the region. Personally I don't believe that... anyone got any references? -- Mariah-Yulia (talk) 22:07, 19 December 2008 (UTC)

Dniprodzerzhynsk → Kamianske – The city was renamed couple of months ago, and I do not see any evidence that there is a common English usage of its name per WP:COMMON--Ymblanter (talk) 15:01, 19 July 2016 (UTC) Ymblanter (talk) 15:01, 19 July 2016 (UTC)
- Comment – Other ukrainian articles such as Dnipropetrovsk has not been moved after discussion (for example Talk:Dnipropetrovsk#Requested move 19 May 2016). Qed237 (talk) 15:13, 19 July 2016 (UTC)
- I am well aware of these situation. However, Dnipropetrovsk and Kirovohrad (likely to be moved next week) are the regional centers, and there is certain chance they may have independent English usage. It was decided a long time ago that the names of Ukrainian localities just follow the official names, with exceptions being Kiev, Odessa, and Chernobyl. Now, presumably, Dnipropetrovsk qualifies as well, as well as localities in Crimea, Donetsk People's Republic, and Luhansk People's Republic (the Rada renamed some of these as well, though it is likely to have zero effect on the common usage). However, I can not imagine anybody resisting moving Dniprodzerzhynsk. Recently, we had a large RM for obscure Ukrainian localities, see Talk:Myrnohrad, which met no opposition.--Ymblanter (talk) 15:33, 19 July 2016 (UTC)
- Support. The city was renamed to Kamianske two months ago. 46.200.26.232 (talk) 16:52, 20 July 2016 (UTC)
- Support. The city has no WP:COMMONNAME in English: Ngrams are not available for both Dniprodzerzhynsk and Kamianske, which means there is not enough sources about the city. Kamianske as the city's original name has few but rather good sources including Encyclopedia of Ukraine and Ukraine, a Concise Encyclopedia, or history books like on WWII or the Ukrainian famine. Ukraine: Trip Five is a good example of how Dniprodzerzhynsk can be considered in English: author misspells it and qualifies as a tongue-twister for westerners. We can conclude that a) Kamianske is a modern name, while Dniprodzerzhynsk is a name used between 1936 and 2016, b) neither name is really common and/or recognizable in English, c) Kamianske is used in English-language sources. This means that WP:MODERNPLACENAME should apply here and the article should be renamed — NickK (talk) 15:12, 22 July 2016 (UTC)

Kamianske, Kamianske Raion, Dnipropetrovsk Oblast → Kamianske – Per WP:PLACEDAB, if there are multiple settlements with the same name and there are no other names with which the city can be confused, the title should be just the city alone if it is the primary topic (see WP:PTOPIC), as is the case for all Wikipedias except the English one. From this list it appears that it is the most plausible target by a wide margin. (The city has 200K+ people, the next largest Kamianske, which is in the same oblast, is just a large village, and yet another one in the oblast is a small settlement). WP:UAPLACE, which seems to be invoked for recent moves, appears not to take into account WP:PTOPIC, and as an explanatory page, has less weight than the PTOPIC guideline.
