In 1972 KAPPUKAD SITUATION BY PRESIDENT,IRENIPURAM PUNCHAYAT TR. KUNCHAN:

Kappukad junction is very people crowd place. Kappukad is start from NH 47 Trivandrum to Kanyakumari road, within 3 KMs from Vettuvenni Junction to Thengapattanam Road. Martandam to Thengapattanam buses and Karungal buses are stop at Kappukad junction. Its left Irenipuram Road is separated from in this junction. St. Joseph Middle School is being there. At first the school started a middle school. Now, the school is upgraded to Higher Secondary School. The Pilgrims are carrying milk pot procession from Martandam temple (Martandam Kaalaichanthai south down)to Koottalumudu Amman Temple on the way in Kappukad. The pilgrims of Lord Shiva, Mahasivaratri day (Saliyam Ottam), they are run on the way of Kappukad to 12 Shivalaya temples in Kayakumari District from Thirumalai Temple in Munchirai. Kappukad situated peoples are attended to see the programmed. The Vilathurai (Vellachi vilai) temple festival, the elephant procession passed in this way to Edayattuvilai Sree Krishnan Koil temple. Many peoples are attended the procession. It is very beautiful. Many contractors meet the labours in the junction of buying daily wages. The labours from Vayakarai, Vilathurai, Marayapuram, Peruvilai,Edayathattu, Puliarai Mangattan Vilai, Mathiyagonam, Kuzhivattam, Mulankuzhi and other areas meet the contractors and buy the wages. Around about 2 KM people are came to Kappukad and purchase the needed things. No more shops are being there. So Many crowd in Kappukad at evening. The shops, Fish market and Hotels are very busy. The pupil/people are come to Kappukad for claim the bus and the buses not stop, at the stopping for crowd and it is very difficulty. The contractor/ President Tr. Kunchan@ Thavasimuthu, Mangattan Vilai, Nelvely West, Mulankuzhi Post of Irenipuram Punchayat from 1972-1976 in Killiyur town panchayat. He was co-operating with public in many ways. He activated electricity and water supply from main Road to inter place in many villages. The electric pillar is carrying by shoulder for set in ground. It is very important plan for lights arrangements to each house. Already the area public used kerosene lights and their life is increased by Electric lights. His assistance of Tr. T. Nesaian, T.
