Is Catherine of Ymseborg the correct title? Perhaps Catherine of Bjelbo would sound better, as she reunited the two rivaling dynasties? Just a sugestion. --85.226.235.208 (talk) 12:33, 9 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

Catherine Sunesdotter → Katarina Sunesdotter – Per WP:COMMONNAME.

Google Books search for "Catherine Sunesdotter" returns one result in English (apparently an English abstract of a Swedish article)
Google Books search for "Katarina Sunesdotter" returns more results. Some of these are high quality, like Caroline Wilhelmsson's recent monograph on Swedish Queens, which dedicates a chapter for her.

Also per WP:UE we should use "Katarina", since that is her established name in Swedish sources, while in English literature she is too rarely discussed to even register in Ngrams. Jähmefyysikko (talk) 09:47, 15 October 2024 (UTC)Reply

Comment: the reason she is not called Catherine in English sources very often is probably simply because she is practically unknown in English literature. Had more been written about her, she would probably have been called Catherine.--Aciram (talk) 19:58, 15 October 2024 (UTC)Reply

Perhaps, but even for medieval Swedish kings, anglicized names are already in the minority in the literature. If she starts being discussed now, her name will likely remain in its modern Swedish form. Jähmefyysikko (talk) 20:10, 15 October 2024 (UTC)Reply
