Kevin or Kévin
editI have again moved this page from Kévin to Kevin, without the accent. The IAAF lists him with an accent, but the name Kevin is normally without one (in French as well), and more importantly, most reliable sources, and their own homepage[1],[2] lists him without the accent. Fram (talk) 06:36, 19 October 2011 (UTC)
- If the sources state his name as Kevin, then you have grounds to stand on, I see no reason not to keep it as Kevin without the accent. N1TH Music (talk) 06:21, 22 August 2022 (UTC)
- @Fram Your message here is from October 2011, I assume you have checked to make sure nothing has changed, I'd assume there's no name change but you never know until you check. N1TH Music (talk) 06:24, 22 August 2022 (UTC)
- Helpful as ever, I see. A name change, sure... Fram (talk) 07:39, 22 August 2022 (UTC)
- You never know, I just wanted to clarify. Better be safe than sorry. I've changed what people around me call me before, twice. N1TH Music (talk) 08:25, 22 August 2022 (UTC)

- @Fram:, you wrote 10 years ago that Kévin in French is always without an accent (false statement, as per Kévin Dupuis and dozens other first-named people, both spelling exist and when you do not put the accent, you write it like English do). and you do not consider the sources, primary or secundary. Especially, World Athletics, Olympedia [3] and European Athletics put it, and they made few mistakes on exact spelling (they always write Kevin Mayer without any accent). Homepage and personal use never reflect the correct way of spelling his own name; Team Belgium, the NOC, also always writes it Kévin [4]; and Le Soir ([5]), RTBF [6] or L'Équipe ([7]) write in the both way. More significantly, French and all major WP always write Kévin and not Kevin. So removing the accent is contrary to a NPOV.--Arorae (talk) 05:01, 23 August 2022 (UTC)
- I said normally, not always, they aren't synonyms. You write that homepage and personal use never reflect the correct way of spelling, which is a very bold statement, but on the other hand you trust a notoriously dubious site like Olympedia? Looking at recent news reports[8], the vast majority use Kevin without the accent, including the major Belgian sports news in all three languages (Sporza, Rtbf, La Libre, GrenzEcho, DH, Nieuwsblad, Le Soir ...). Per WP:COMMONNAME, I see no reason to move this. Fram (talk) 07:29, 23 August 2022 (UTC)
- @Fram@Arorae At the end of the day, if both can be used interchangeably in various websites then it shows that it doesn't really matter. Nobody is going to mistake this person for somebody else because of the accent. Whichever one is actually correct isn't actually so relevent and I don't think it's worth the time of any of us (for the moment at least) I think we should just leave it as it is. Fram, you have a couple sources to prove your point. I think everyone can agree that's sufficient. N1TH Music (talk) 09:00, 23 August 2022 (UTC)

Move it to Kevin Borlee, IMHO. GoodDay (talk) 15:36, 23 August 2022 (UTC)
