Takes place after first Kingdom Hearts?

I find this bit of information to be canonically impossible. Kingdom Hearts leads straight into Chain of Memories and Sora and company (Jimminey included) went straight to sleep from Chain of Memories, waking up in Kingdom Hearts 2. Not only that, but King Mickey was with DiZ during these events, so he couldn't have seen Jimminey during that time. Mavrickindigo 18:04, 20 September 2007 (UTC)

I thought that too, but that's what the source says. The source also said that the square representative said the timeline is a bit muddled. I guess we'll wait and see what other sources say as it gets closer to the release. (Guyinblack25 talk 18:42, 20 September 2007 (UTC))
See translation. The PDF does have "Kingdom Hearts II" in that sentence. ' 19:01, 20 September 2007 (UTC)
It's also called a collaboration with the Walt Disney Internet Group, which is worth noting. ' 19:03, 20 September 2007 (UTC)
Ok, I see it now. My bad, the PDF does say KHII. That clears things up some. Thanks Apostrophe. (Guyinblack25 talk 19:12, 20 September 2007 (UTC))

Title

In SQUARE ENIX's press release[1] they wrote "coded" in all lowercase. I've changed the title of the wikipage, but it got changed back again. Is this against wikipedia's rules again? Then what about xxxHolic? It doesn't even start with a capital. I think if SQUARE ENIX explicitly writes a title in lowercase, wikipedia should reflect that. SoulSlayer 11:08, 21 September 2007 (UTC)

I totally agree with your change. This is the English-language Wikipedia, and as such, the English press release trumps the Japanese (PDF) press release. Kariteh 11:47, 21 September 2007 (UTC)
See, SoulSlayer, you gotta explain things more thoroughly in your edit summary. I guess I'll move it again.—Loveはドコ? (talkcontribs) 13:12, 21 September 2007 (UTC)
This should've been explained in the first place; I thought it was moved on the basis of the logo being all lowercase. ' 18:01, 21 September 2007 (UTC)

As an added bonus, for those not in the know, coded is written with the "c" in capital letters at the start of sentences. Why? See Wikipedia: Manual of Style (trademark). — Blue 08:11, 28 September 2007 (UTC)

Proper sourcing

To all editors that would like to add new information about the new game, please be sure to add proper citation along with your new content. Simply stating in the edit summary or in the sentence that it was in a recent or new magazine is only part of the information needed for proper sourcing. Additional information required is the name of the magazine, the issue #, and the publication date. In addition to that, other information that would be nice to have is the name of the article or section in the magazine, the page #s, and/or the name of the article writer. There are two reasons behind this.

  1. Proper sourcing and citation add credibility to the information and lets the uninformed reader know the information is factual and reliable.
  2. It also is required to make it to Good Article and Featured Article, which several of us would like to see in order to add the new games into the Kingdom Hearts Featured Topic. Without these articles at a level of quality of at least Good Article some time after they're released, the topic will be delisted.

The extra information is appreciated and we hope more is found, but without proper sourcing, we can't really have it in the article per WP:CITE. (Guyinblack25 talk 13:13, 2 October 2007 (UTC))

GameSpot

Sorry to say this, but it needs to be cleared up: GameSpot, IGN, EGM, etc, NONE of those are reliable sources when it comes to international releases and exports to other regions, mainly because their "confirmations" are either speculation or wishful thinking. If it helps, these 4 are the most reliable sources we can use regarding any new news of releases: SquareEnix themselves; Famitsu; V-Jump; Gamaga. So lets stop this nonsense. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 70.188.24.125 (talk) 02:38, 7 October 2007 (UTC)

Gamespot is listed as a reliable source so it can be used but please do not put up any info not confirmed by SE.-Metalocalypse —Preceding unsigned comment added by Metalocalypse (talkcontribs) 15:08, 14 November 2007 (UTC)

Walt Disney Internet Group

The article says that the game is co-developed by Walt Disney Internet Group, but the source doesn't seem to mention that. Or is it mentioned in Japanese? I'm a bit surprised because, according to the Walt Disney Internet Group article, this group isn't a game developer. FightingStreet (talk) 12:02, 2 March 2008 (UTC)

That info was taken from citation 1 - [2], a GameSpot article. I've added the citation to the content. Thanks for pointing that out. (Guyinblack25 talk 20:53, 2 March 2008 (UTC))

Wow, GameSpot. REAAAALL reliable. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 70.188.24.37 (talk) 14:54, 4 June 2008 (UTC)

Development Stall

Taking into consideration Wada's latest statement regarding mobile titles, I think a mention should be made in here. The same goes for the other SE mobile titles. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 70.188.24.37 (talk) 21:48, 4 June 2008 (UTC)

Feel free to do it if it's explicitely related to this game. Kariteh (talk) 21:51, 4 June 2008 (UTC)
Do you have a source for it, like a press release or online article? (Guyinblack25 talk 21:58, 4 June 2008 (UTC))

Meh, I'd rather have it you guys change it. Every time *I* change something, someone, somewhere complains... Here's the article: http://www.watch.impress.co.jp/game/docs/20080523/sqex.htm —Preceding unsigned comment added by 70.188.24.37 (talk) 23:57, 4 June 2008 (UTC)

Hi, Following a rule change, Kingdom Hearts now fails featured topic criteria 1.d. and 3.c., as Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days, Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep and Kingdom Hearts coded need to be audited for quality and added to the topic. The topic has 6 months from the time of the rule change, or until 2009-01-03, to re-meet the criterion - rst20xx (talk) 01:09, 4 July 2008 (UTC)

Kingdom Hearts coded out today?

I have heard that the game is out now. I need sources to verify this, but I am far too busy at the moment. Immblueversion (talk) 12:36, 19 November 2008 (UTC)

The Official website has been updated with more content. It says the release date and price are still undecided, but mentions that the game will be preinstalled on P-01A docomo phones in November 2008. I tried searching Famitsu, IGN, and GameSpot's sites a few days ago, but could find anything; didn't look that long though. I'm sure something will turn up eventually. Despite what fans expect of Wikipedia, there's no real rush. (Guyinblack25 talk 15:30, 19 November 2008 (UTC))
I did another sweep for a source. The only things I've found are the P-01A product page which states its preinstalled and the generic Docomo product listing which states the phone is "now available". The Japanese blog posting that KH Ultimania and KH Insider have been using as a source and the YouTube video footage are unfortunately deemed unreliable sources by Wikipedia. Until we find a source for the release date, I think it's best to leave it as is. (Guyinblack25 talk 15:48, 25 November 2008 (UTC))

It would be nice for someone who has played the Japanese game to fill in details here, such as who "them" refers to. -- Noneofyourbusiness (talk) 03:48, 14 December 2008 (UTC)

It has already confirmed that "them" refers to the new antagonist.Haseo445 (talk) 15:44, 18 February 2009 (UTC)

...obviously, he means something more specific. Like who the antagonist is?—Loveはドコ? (talkcontribs) 01:55, 20 February 2009 (UTC)
Exactly. I would have thought that surely some people in Japan use this wikipedia. -- Noneofyourbusiness (talk) 04:10, 18 March 2009 (UTC)

i highly doubt japan has more information, since we do our best to find it. anyways..."who" will still remain a mystery. the demo wont reveal who"them" is until the end of the game. the game's whole purpose is to find out who "them" is.Haseo445 (talk) 16:27, 19 March 2009 (UTC)

And the chapters are being made available at certain dates, instead of the game being fully playable now? -- Noneofyourbusiness (talk) 02:10, 31 March 2009 (UTC)

most likely. But i only scene the demo do that.DeathBerry talk 16:01, 8 April 2009 (UTC)

Video showing it at Japan Expo 2009

The only verifiable-reference is the video that was uploaded, in the video it shows the Japanese trial version, despite this, proof it was in France and at Japan Expo 2009 is the billboard showing an explanation to the side of the booth, which is in French, outside of this, there is no reference to coded being there that I can find, only (the more popular) 358/2 Days. I guess this means it's not good enough is it? [3] - Video --Lightlowemon (talk) 12:15, 4 August 2009 (UTC)

Unfortunately no. Because Youtube is user-generated content, it doesn't meet Wikipedia's definition of a reliable source. There's already a mention of trade show appearances, so I don't think the article suffers without it. Let me know if you find anything else. Thanks. (Guyinblack25 talk 14:47, 4 August 2009 (UTC))

Kingdom Hearts Mobile

If the link for Kingdom Hearts Mobile is going to redirect here, there should be some actual info about the game, like about the Avatar Kingdom.98.223.111.14 (talk) 05:11, 5 September 2009 (UTC)

Expansion

the character and plot section needs to be better described. maybe separate them by episodes. each episode reveals something. Especially episode 4 and 5. as for character section, there seems to be missing, like virtual malificent and virtual pete, and the physical form of the journalBread Ninja (talk) 17:40, 20 October 2009 (UTC).

Episode 8

and the eighth on January, 2010.[1]

I've checked over the link several times, and the most I can see is that he mentions that he has been "test playing the last chapter". Even if it is reasonable to assume that he means Episode 8, he never says it will come out in January. While this may be completely true, a different source needs to be found.128.46.5.75 (talk) 22:45, 23 January 2010 (UTC)

About Re: coded's US release date

Re: coded's US release date is not March 31, 2011. Tetsuya Nomura confirmed that it will be released shortly after the Japanese version of the game is released which means its release date is still October 2010. So as always, no reliable source on the US version's release date=don't edit that, please.

UPDATE I HAD ENOUGH of the "Q1 2011" crap as Re:coded's North American release date, so I'm putting its release date as "October 2010", so please I beg, don't change the release date until the series' creator and director Tetsuya Nomura reveals the true NA release date in a magazine interview article. Skip-worthy?

What did the reception mean by this game being the "most skip-worthy"? Is it that bad? 66.216.234.49 (talk) 16:27, 12 January 2011 (UTC)

Lead and Infobox

  • in collaboration with the Walt Disney Internet Group for mobile phones. - You should call it Disney Interactive Studios instead of Walt Disney Internet Group for consistency
  • It is the fourth installment in the Kingdom Hearts series and is set after the events of the Kingdom Hearts II - "the" is not necessary
  • The lead is a bit too short, and it is not really summarizing the entire article. There is no information about gameplay, and too little information about story. It will also be better if it is split into several paragraphs instead of simply one giant paragraph.
  • WP:LEADCITE - It will be better if the sources are used in sections instead of the lead.
  • Can the list of episode release dates have its own section, a section similar to The Walking Dead (video game)#Episodes instead of listing them in the lead? It looks really clumsy

Body

  • The gameplay section is too short and feels under-developed.
  • , except the player is given more freedom to control their actions through the use of button commands. - Since the section is talking about characters this sentence is not really necessary
  • which take the form of red-and-black blocks and Heartless Sora has encountered in the first game - When I am reading it I think that Sora has a nickname called Heartless Sora. So I recommend you rephrase this sentence
  • Sora's Heartless - When I read Sora (Kingdom Hearts), I know that Heartless is a creature. Then what does Sora's Heartless here means?
  • In a scene exclusive to HD 2.5 ReMix - Should be Remix only
  • Jiminy wrote about the adventure here in the same journal, so it was also erased - This sentence doesn't sound necessary
  • Quite a lot of new characters are introduced in the end of the plot section. May need some explanations on who they are.
  • In a second secret ending exclusive to HD 2.5 ReMix, Braig meets with the younger incarnation of Master Xehanort after his and the other members of the Organization's reconstruction. - Doesn't sound like a complete sentence
  • What is the Organization?
I added a link to the article, let me know if we should put more.
  • Coded get capitalized in the development section but not the Setting section?
I think coded is supposed to be lower case unless it starts a sentence, so the lowercase first word use would be wrong.
  • Coded was directed by Tetsuya Nomura and co-directed by Hajime Tabata, and is the first collaboration between Square Enix and the Disney Internet Group. - Why call it Disney Internet Group?
  • which would reveal some plotholes behind the first Kingdom Hearts game - Kingdom Hearts need to be italicized
  • In mid-2007, Nomura mentioned a desire to create a spin-off Kingdom Hearts game - Kingdoms Hearts again need to be italicized
  • Nomura planned to release the game via a new business model, one the industry had not seen yet, to lower barriers to entry. - If it is something new, it is definitely something the industry hadn't seen. So, it is a bit redundant here.
  • Included in the model is an online cell phone portal called Kingdom Hearts Mobile which will allow users to create avatars and play minigames. - Kingdom Hearts Mobile need to be italicized
  • who took over the role after the passing of Jiminy's former voice actor Eddie Carroll - I will use the word "death" instead of "passing". Sounds more formal in my opinion
  • However, it remained unconfirmed until Re:coded, among other titles, was presented at E3 2010 - "among other titles" is not necessary
  • It combines the gameplay elements from a mix of Birth by Sleep, 358/2 Days, and the original coded - I don't think "a mix of" here is necessary because it sounds weird here.

* exclusively on the PlayStation 3. I will add released before exclusively

  • Though not compulsory, Template:video game reviews can be very useful here
  • Is it really necessary to separate website-based and magazine-based reviewers?
  • Name for magazines need to be italicized
  • The reception section is a bit too short, and is relying too much on quotes. The first paragraph and the second paragraph is very inconsistent.
  • References are needed for 1UP, Nintendo Power and ONM.
  • That see also section feels unnecessary.

References

  • Inconsistent date format in citations
  • "Square Enix Staff" is not necessary.
  • Why Square Enix is the author of a GameSpot source (18)
  • Why include www.Gameinformer.com in a citation?
  • Quite a lot of primary sources are used. Can it be replaced?
I cut a lot of dead links, I see three references that cite in game dialogue, but that probably won't be found anywhere but direction quotation from the game itself. Anything else you think should be replaced?
  • Source 4, 19, 18, 38, 29, 39 are dead
  • Some sources seems to be redirected
All redirects functioning, none can be made clearer than they are now.

I am going to leave it on hold for a week. If the issues I mentioned above are addressed, the article is go to go! Good Luck.   AdrianGamer (talk) 12:57, 25 April 2015 (UTC)

Thanks! I'll be addressing these issues soon, thanks for the thorough review! Judgesurreal777 (talk) 02:32, 26 April 2015 (UTC)
Do you need few more days to fix the issues I mentioned above? AdrianGamer (talk) 10:59, 4 May 2015 (UTC)
I do if thats alright, some of the corrections are taking a bit more time than anticipated, and require some fundamental overhauls. Judgesurreal777 (talk) 17:18, 4 May 2015 (UTC)
Can you finishing addressing the remaining issues by May 16, 2015? I cannot put it on hold for too long. AdrianGamer (talk) 13:47, 12 May 2015 (UTC)
I'll try, if you have to close it by then it's fine. I should be able to address most of the remaining issues. Judgesurreal777 (talk) 20:22, 12 May 2015 (UTC)
I am sorry that I have to close the review today. However, after you have addressed all the issues I have mentioned, I will be happy to review the article again. AdrianGamer (talk) 04:15, 17 May 2015 (UTC)

Re:coded as a separate article

I know Re:coded is a separate but similar game to coded, but should 're:coded' not be a separate article from 'coded'? Here are the reasons I think should be a separate game and article...

•"re:coded" received relatively negative reviews compared to the original mobile version of the game, which was for Jeremy Parish a sign mobile games are starting to become "full fledged" games. The primary attack targeted the controls and camera, and shallow story telling.
•Graphics and controls differ in both, but controls particularly excel in the mobile version. The DS version was praised for the incredible graphics.
•The remake of it in HD 2.5 Remix can't count as a separate article because it already is included as a remake in a list of remakes withing a compilation game.
Please take these into consideration.
Sincerely, FDJK001 (talk) 03:23, 28 May 2015 (UTC).
It is true that the games are very different, but lets see. There is precedent for keeping the article together, Final Fantasy III is very different in 3D but it doesn't need to be split. Lets keep expanding the article as it is, and if it gets too big, we will split it. Sound good? Better to have one FA than two B class after all. Judgesurreal777 (talk) 18:58, 29 May 2015 (UTC)
True. I just thought the reviews mentioned accumulated both games' scores together, and following this comes confusion.
Nice rest of the day to you.
FDJK001 (talk) 06:45, 30 May 2015 (UTC).
You are right though, we do need to split out and label which ones are coded and which are recoded to avoid confusion. Judgesurreal777 (talk) 13:38, 30 May 2015 (UTC)

I'll have this finished soon. A day or two at least. JAGUAR  21:33, 4 April 2016 (UTC)

Initial comments

  • "Coded was a Japan-only release announced at the 2007 Tokyo Game Show" - needs italicisation
  • "Gameplay is mostly puzzle solving, with action-RPG gameplay elements" - reads slightly awkward, how about The game play is centered mostly around puzzle solving, with action-RPG gameplay elements?
  • "Mini-games and platforming are also featured" - link minigame and platform game
  • "Tetsuya Nomura decided to create a Kingdom Hearts spin-off for cell phones" - cell phones or mobile phones? Should be consistent throughout
  • "This leads king Mickey and friends" - This leads king Mickey and his friends?
  • "The game received mixed reviews, with reviewers praising the graphics and gameplay variety" - 'review' overload, how about The game received mixed reviews, with critics praising? Feel free to ignore this part
  • "Kingdom Hearts Re:coded had an added system to incorporate multiplayer experiences called "tag mode"" - should be in present tense
  • "The story was supposed to be "fluid", so not strictly sticking into the chronology of the Kingdom Hearts series" - the latter half sounds a bit unencyclopedic, how about The story was initially supposed to be "fluid" and did not adhere into the chronology of the Kingdom Hearts series
  • "so the planned expansion to other Japanese phone carriers and to America were not possible" - always prefer 'United States'
  • No dead links
  • Dab links OK

I'll leave this on hold until all of the above are clarified. Let me know if you have any questions   JAGUAR  20:01, 5 April 2016 (UTC)

All the issues have been addressed, and am happy to conclude that this meets the criteria. Well done!   JAGUAR  17:34, 6 April 2016 (UTC)

Title revisited

I believe the "coded" in the title should be capitalized. It might be stylized as lowercase but Wikipedia:Naming conventions (capitalization) says to capitalize proper nouns, which "coded" is. Also despite what it says above (previous talk page conversation many moons ago), per Wikipedia:Manual of Style/Trademarks, "coded" should be capitalized in the text even if it is usually stylized as lowercase. – czar 01:24, 17 May 2015 (UTC)

Revisited revisited

Kingdom Hearts codedKingdom Hearts Coded – I suppose this was changed again since the last discussion? We do not follow stylizations in article titles per Wikipedia:Manual of Style/Trademarks. The few English sources we have on the non-"Re:coded" title also capitalize "Coded".[4][5]   czar 12:01, 8 March 2016 (UTC)

That's fine, I just saw how everything in the article said "coded" so I moved I thinking it was a mistake. Judgesurreal777 (talk) 14:54, 8 March 2016 (UTC)
Moved it back, added the note. Judgesurreal777 (talk) 15:02, 8 March 2016 (UTC)

Clarity issues

Some reading issues here. I came here to read specifically about Re:coded (it redirects here) and I don't have a sense of what the game is about or what was remade about it from reading its section. From the lede, I can extract that it's a remake for the NDS platform but what changed? And weren't there reviews? This type of info would be necessary for GA breadth, for what it's worth. As a reader, I'd expect the Re:coded section to even be somewhat self-contained, in that I can read it and be able to explain to another person the essence of the remake.   czar 01:49, 7 December 2016 (UTC)
