The result of the move request was: moved. The general consensus is to move per WP:COMMONNAME (closed by non-admin page mover) ❯❯❯ Raydann(Talk) 19:33, 3 December 2023 (UTC)
Lake McKerrow / Whakatipu Waitai → Lake McKerrow – Per WP:COMMONNAME, WP:CONCISE, and MOS:SLASH. Proposed title is overwhelmingly preferred by reliable sources; Google News returns 29 results for the proposed title, compared to 7 results for any form of the current title.
Proposed title is also more concise and better aligned with MOS:SLASH. BilledMammal (talk) 08:57, 25 November 2023 (UTC)
- Comment: A search for "Whakatipu Waitai" on Google News finds no results; it doesn't affect which name is the WP:COMMONNAME. BilledMammal (talk) 02:25, 26 November 2023 (UTC)
- Support as proposed. I also note that many of the search results that do include “Whakatipu Waitai” are about the names (or similar names), and don’t reflect standard use of them together. Others use one of the names in brackets, which never feels to me like a naturally double-barrel use so much as a news source endeavouring to serve two languages. — HTGS (talk) 03:26, 27 November 2023 (UTC)
- Support as per the two comments above me. Clearly WP:COMMONNAME. Kiwiz1338 (talk) 09:10, 27 November 2023 (UTC)
- Support per nom. -- Necrothesp (talk) 14:08, 28 November 2023 (UTC)
- Support. The slash character should be strongly avoided in titles. From the first version, “Lake McKerrow” came first, which is a very indicator for the better title. —SmokeyJoe (talk) 02:56, 3 December 2023 (UTC)
- The slash is required by New Zealand-specific naming conventions for dual titles, and its presence is irrelevant for the move discussion. The order of the dual names is for consistency with their order in the official dual name. Some dual names use the former English name first, such as Avon River / Ōtākaro or Franz Josef / Waiau, while others use the Māori name first, such as Whakaari / White Island or Maungakiekie / One Tree Hill.
