Removed the following

edit

Removed the following from article because of its narrow contribution to the article. (The name "Lee Highway" is still used in many locales along the route.)

The name is still in use for U.S. Highway 29 in Northern Virginia, near Washington, D.C. Added by User:216.214.103.34

I don't see how the article is more informative after your edit than before it. If your objection is that the name is still used in may locales rather than one, it would have been a lot better to edit the article to say that. As it is, not only has relevant information been removed, but also, the article gives the erroneous impression that the name is no longer in use at all. 69.140.80.231 12:21, 12 May 2005 (UTC)Reply
I see that this edit has been made. Thanks, SPUI! 69.140.80.231 12:01, 13 May 2005 (UTC)Reply

Lee Highway rouite from Warrenton to Washington DC

edit

The article says that the route from Washington to Warrenton is US211. Years ago US211 ran on the same pavement as US29 from Warrenton to Washington, but something like 15 years ago somebody decided that US211 ran only from New Market, VA to Warrenton, VA. There's a big "END" sign under the US211 shield at Warrenton where it hits US29.

So the route should be US29 from Washington DC to Warrenton VA, US211 from there to New Market VA, and US11 South from there.

Robert E. Lee

edit

Article currently says it's named for Robert E. Lee, which I'm fairly sure is wrong. I don't have references at the moment though, just pointing it out. 68.225.88.31 (talk) 04:28, 9 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

It most certainly was named for Robert E. Lee. Spark240 (talk) 06:48, 1 December 2008 (UTC)Reply

New York?

edit

I have never heard of any reference to any part of US Route 1 between New York and Washington as "Lee Highway", now or in history. Can somebody please provide a source for this or else edit it out of the article? It certainly isn't on the map in the American Roads resource from the external links section. I also can't find any reference to the Lee Highway going anywhere near San Francisco. It seems to have gone from San Diego to D.C. 504roadtrips (talk) 00:26, 1 July 2023 (UTC)Reply
