  • ... that Avenged Sevenfold teased their eighth studio album Life Is but a Dream... through an online scavenger hunt that began with their social media accounts being falsely hacked?Source: Kerrang - "A7X kicked off their cryptic online scavenger hunt last month by apparently getting 'hacked', with a fake announcement that a couple of their massive upcoming festival appearances had been cancelled. This naughty hacker was discovered to be Libad5343, with a website of the same name the launching and feeding fans all sorts of breadcrumbs"; Blabbermouth - "Prior to the track's release, the band launched an elaborate and mysterious digital scavenger hunt with puzzles, ciphers, images, and blog posts all written by Chat GPT, DALL-E 2, and AI voice modifiers. What was initiated as a cryptic hacker campaign on socials, eventually lead fans to a web site full of challenges to complete over the past two weeks that ultimately lead to the single being 'unlocked' for release today."

Overall:   No problems here. The hook is cited and interesting, and the article is new, long enough, and within policy. Lazman321 (talk) 04:59, 23 March 2023 (UTC)Reply

Hook and article seem very promotional. It's a hook about a marketing campaign, a teaser for a product that hasn't been released yet. Not sure if it's main page material at this point in time, per WP:PROMOTIONAL and WP:TOOSOON. Cielquiparle (talk) 15:15, 26 March 2023 (UTC)Reply
@Cielquiparle: The marketing campaign is now concluded, people cannot partake in it anymore even if they wanted to. It was to promote the announcement of the album and its lead single, not the release of the album coming in June. I can remove the term "upcoming" to make it seem less promotional, though as it stands both the hook and article are not really "promotional", they're just restating events that have been reported on by secondary sources. There is also nothing WP:TOOSOON about it so that point can be discarded as irrelevant; I have submitted many successful DYK nominations, with no rejections, for albums that were not released yet at the time of the nom. @Aria1561: I think what is grating about ALT0 is starts out sounding like, "Did you know that marketing people did a teaser campaign on social media?" Which is not interesting and self-serving to the marketers. But the interesting bit about the social media accounts being pretend-hacked is at the end of the sentence. In order to make this more hooky, we could flip it, so that the hack is at the front. For example:

Could Lazman321 or another reviewer please review ALT1? Cielquiparle (talk) 08:36, 2 April 2023 (UTC)Reply
You claim ALT0 is "not interesting" and yet I guarantee that you cannot name another musical artist who has teased new music through a scavenger hunt that was initiated with their social media accounts being hacked. Your critiques have been incredibly short-sighted and remain invalid. Your ALT1 hook meanwhile is just ALT0 rewritten but with a mention of ChatGPT. If you think ALT0 sounds like "Did you know that marketing people did a teaser campaign on social media?" I'm not exactly sure how you think ALT1 is any different just because it mentions ChatGPT – it's still the exact same hook otherwise. Regardless, I support ALT1 with some slight adjustments that I have made, since it's just my original hook but structured differently. Aria1561 (talk) 16:50, 2 April 2023 (UTC)Reply
@Aria1561: Totally agree it's essentially the same hook, just leading with the interesting / differentiating part at the front. I am striking ALT0 though because their social media accounts weren't actually hacked. That was fake, and the hook should be clear. You're welcome to submit ALT0a with a clarification. That way the promoter has a choice. We still need someone to approve ALT1 though, and ALT0a if you resubmit. Cheers. Cielquiparle (talk) 19:27, 2 April 2023 (UTC)Reply
So your way of making it clear is by putting hacked in quotations? And you have the gall to strike out ALT0 without doing the same for it? Lol. Aria1561 (talk) 04:43, 3 April 2023 (UTC)Reply
  • I agree that this should wait until the album is actually released. But, looking at the question of the hook(s), let me suggest:
ALT2: ... that Avenged Sevenfold teased their album Life Is but a Dream... through an online scavenger hunt?
The ones listed already seem excessively wordy, trying to cram too much into the hook. This is just a trimmed-down version of ALT0, but I think it's catchier for being shorter. -- RoySmith (talk) 15:22, 3 April 2023 (UTC)Reply
Again, I'm not sure why we should wait until the album's release. I have submitted multiple DYK nominations for albums that were not yet released and all of them have passed, that strawman argument needs to be put to rest. The ALT2 suggestion is actually less interesting than ALT0 as well. Cielquiparle's claim is that ALT0 sounds like it's promoting an album's marketing tactic, and while I disagree with that claim, ALT2 is just that and nothing more, and is not an improvement over any other suggestion. Furthermore, ALT1 is certainly not wordy, especially when compared to what's on DYK for today, and I would say it's the best hook currently listed. This debate is becoming aimless – ALT1 is perfectly in line with other DYK hooks that are displayed on the Main Page and there is no reason to hold this nomination up because the album in question is not yet released, I have already put this argument to rest. I would prefer it if we got this done finally. Aria1561 (talk) 20:52, 3 April 2023 (UTC)Reply

Promoting, just was not sure about "hacker" since our article calls them a "suspected" hacker. Bruxton (talk) 20:23, 27 April 2023 (UTC)Reply

Shouldn't this be called Experimental Metal?

edit

the term is a bit more fitting than "Avant-garde metal", but I feel like we should keep the two genres together. FoNVLORD4013 (talk) 06:23, 2 June 2023 (UTC)Reply
