Republican Governor in 1820s?
editI don't seem to recall the Republican party existing until the 1850s. I don't know what party Govr Kent may have been in, but I'm fairly confident it wasn't the GOP.--Bwryan2006 19:05, 14 January 2006 (UTC)
- Ditto John Henry and Robert Wright, serving in the late 1700s/early 1800s, are listed as "Democrats". The Democratic party didn't emerge until after Andrew Jackson's presidency in the 1830s. Wright is listed on his page has being a Democratic-Republican in the Senate, for what that's worth, but somebody needs to figure out their real party affiliations. --Jfruh (talk) 16:14, 8 November 2006 (UTC)
Ehrlich
editI have a question just a general wondering, why was AKA Governor Ehrlich signing documents for the State of Maryland in the year 2001 if he was not elected as Governor until the year 2003? Does anyone have the answer? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 165.247.0.97 (talk • contribs) on 23:39, July 14, 2006.
- Ehrlich was a US representative until 2003; he was elected governor in 2002. What do you mean by "signing documents for the State of Maryland"? --Jfruh (talk) 21:10, 16 July 2007 (UTC)
Lord Baltimore
editWhen a Lord Baltimore was governor, the list entry should include his title, which was part of his name. I've adjusted this. john k 05:52, 11 August 2007 (UTC)
Numbering Governors
editI have been updating some of the individual Maryland Governor articles with the politicians template. When I got to Oden Bowie he was listed as the 38th Governor, whereas everyone I'd worked on up to that point was four less. Martin O'Malley is described as the 61st Governor, but if you count the number of State governors in the List of Governors of Maryland, he is the 65th listed. Should the Governors all be renumbered? I cannot find a source to tell me definitively whether O'Malley is the 61st or 65th Governor... help!--Pubdog (talk) 00:11, 26 May 2009 (UTC)
- What you're running into is Governors who served more than one term non-consecutively. For example, Thomas Sim Lee was Governor twice in the early years after the Revolution. This has happened four times in state history. Thus, O'Malley is the 61st Governor. Geraldk (talk) 00:47, 26 May 2009 (UTC)
- Thanks for the clarification. Given this, would it be appropriate to say that Martin O'Malley is the 61st Governor serving in the 65th term? Would you say in the introduction for Thomas Sim Lee, for instance (one of the four with non-consecutive terms) that he "was the second Governor of Maryland, who served the second and eighth term as Governor"? When I think of references to Grover Cleveland he served as the 22nd and 24th President, so I thought perhaps the same "rule" applied to Governors of Maryland as well. Please advise,--Pubdog (talk) 23:57, 26 May 2009 (UTC)
- To bar confusion for the reader and unnecessary explanation, I would just go with the most common usage, which would make O'Malley the 61st Governor. Geraldk (talk) 00:05, 27 May 2009 (UTC)
- How about "... the 61st person to serve as Governor of Maryland"?--Pubdog (talk) 16:29, 27 May 2009 (UTC)
- That works fine too. Geraldk (talk) 17:04, 27 May 2009 (UTC)

Would somebody with the know how, fix the numbering scheme? Maryland only counts a Governor once, O'Malley is the 61st Governor (not the 65th). GoodDay (talk) 21:04, 18 January 2010 (UTC)
- See List of Prime Ministers of Canada for how this moght be handled. What do you think?--Pubdog (talk) 01:34, 20 January 2010 (UTC)
- Yeah, on the other governor lists we've relisted the original number in italics. --Golbez (talk) 02:07, 20 January 2010 (UTC)
- Thanks for fixing up guys. It was Brice, who was messing me up. GoodDay (talk) 23:49, 20 January 2010 (UTC)

I've ran into similiar numbering mess ups at List of Governors of Delaware, List of Governors of New Hampshire and List of Governors of Rhode Island. -- GoodDay (talk) 23:53, 20 January 2010 (UTC)
- Glad I could help out! Thanks to the MD state archives for the official list.--Pubdog (talk) 01:16, 21 January 2010 (UTC)
