Anne Rice

edit

I've removed Anne Rice entry again, being of Irish descent does not make her Irish American, she is an American of Irish descent. She is included on List of Americans of Irish descent but should not be listed here as she is an American-born descendant of Irish parents. There is no mention on her article that she ever applied for Irish citizenship and so does not have dual-nationality. Suonii180 (talk) 17:29, 12 December 2021 (UTC)Reply

If that is the case, my impression of the contents of this article is that you had better strike almost every entry on the same basis. Mutt Lunker (talk) 17:37, 12 December 2021 (UTC)Reply
It's unclear where you have gained this impression and both lists appear to have essentially identical stated criteria for inclusion. Mutt Lunker (talk) 17:41, 12 December 2021 (UTC)Reply
You intend to strike John F. Kennedy for not holding dual citizenship?
The lead clearly states: This is a list of notable Irish Americans, including both original immigrants who obtained American citizenship and their American-born descendants. Anne Rice clearly qualifies an that criterion. The Banner talk 17:55, 12 December 2021 (UTC)Reply

Merger discussion

edit
The following discussion is closed. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section. A summary of the conclusions reached follows.
Result was merge.

List of Americans of Irish descent should be merged into this list. The criteria for these two lists are word-for-word identical: they include "both original immigrants who obtained American citizenship and their American-born descendants." None of the other lists in the Category:Lists of American people by ethnic or national origin have this kind of overlap. Dennis C. Abrams (talk) 16:18, 24 January 2024 (UTC)Reply

supportIt seems that both articles had the same origin but suffered renaming and recreation. The Banner talk 19:06, 24 January 2024 (UTC)Reply
Support The present situation is irrational. Spideog (talk) 20:25, 25 January 2024 (UTC)Reply
Support - This merge seems like an open-and-shut case, I think you can close the discussion and proceed with the merge @Denniscabrams (if you are so inclined of course). Choucas Bleu (T·C) 16:54, 15 March 2024 (UTC)Reply

Ernest J. King

edit

There is no evidence either in his page or in outside materials that Ernest J. King is Irish. He was born in Ohio to a Scottish immigrant and an American of English ancestry. Should this be removed? Sorry, I am new to editing Wikipedia. Mnolangray (talk) 22:58, 12 May 2024 (UTC)Reply

Interesting. You are right but... that is only due to this edit. In that edit a source is removed that called his father an Irish immigrant. Unfortunately, @Hawkeye7: did not give an explanation. The Banner talk 00:56, 13 May 2024 (UTC)Reply
I was following what the cited source said. Hawkeye7 (discuss) 04:01, 13 May 2024 (UTC)Reply
I can't see that source that you have used unfortunately. But it seems to me that we have a case of conflicting sources here. A quick look at Familysearch did not help either, as it was stating that his father was born in Ohio, a third option. So I can agree that their is no evidence of his Irish ancestry. I will remove him from the list. The Banner talk 09:35, 13 May 2024 (UTC)Reply
To see it, access the book on the Internet Archive. Check it out and go to page 1. Hawkeye7 (discuss) 20:11, 13 May 2024 (UTC)Reply
