Expo Line stations

I think is important to include the Expo Line stations. The line is opening in less than a week and even though they aren't open yet, the stations still exist, and therefore meet the criteria to be included in the list. I think it's a little unnecessary to wait until the stations open to include them here. For the stations which are going to open this week, they probably should be listed for the reasons you said. The stations which aren't planned to open until June should be listed in a "Future stations" section as in, for example, List of Washington Metro stations. The same probably goes for any other unopened stations with articles, such as the Expo Line Phase 2 and the Gold Line Foothill Extension. Inclusion of Metro Liner stations

I think that the stations for the two Metro Liner lines (Silver Line and Orange Line should also be included here. Several Metro Rail stations also serve Metro Liner, and although they are bus rapid transit and not rail lines, the LACMTA still lists all six Metro lines together under the "line maps" section on their site.[1] I don't see a reason to keep the separate, especially since they are all integrated within the same systeme. –Dream out loud (talk) 00:32, 24 April 2012 (UTC)Reply

This list should just exclusively have rail stations. Bus rapid transit is not the same as light rail/rapid transit. To the extent that they are part of the same system, you could say the same about every other Metro bus station and bus stop. – Zntrip 01:31, 24 April 2012 (UTC)Reply
Bus rapid transit is not the same as light rail and rapid transit, but rapid transit is also not the same as light rail. I think that is irrelevant. It's not the same as every other bus stop because the list includes bus stations. There's a huge difference between a stop with sign on a curb versus an entire station with dedicated infrastructure. The point is that it would be an inclusive list of all the stations within the Metro system. That is, every station featured on the Metro map. –Dream out loud (talk) 16:22, 24 April 2012 (UTC)Reply
I don't know if you've seen what most of the Orange and Silver Line "stations" look like, but they are essentially just curb-side stops on public streets. The dedicated infrastructure is really just a ticket machine. Some of the stops on the Silver Line are stations in the sense that they are on a fixed route that exclusively serves buses, but most of the stops do not look like that. – Zntrip 19:06, 24 April 2012 (UTC)Reply
The LACMTA does make a distinction between Metro Rail and Metro Liner/Transitway service; for example, see its list of timetables, or the official system map. In keeping with this, the lists of stations should probably be separate as well. Improvements to be made

This list was promoted to FL status about 3 years ago and is no longer up to standards. I don't think it should be demoted, but it definitely needs to be improved upon in order to keep its status. I have been doing some work on it myself, but here's a list of other things to do:

  • Clean up the lead – too many details there (such as every single opening date, every single city served) that can be eliminated
  • Add table of lines – include ridership, termini, date opened, etc. (this will help remove excess data from the lead)
  • Remove ref column – citations can be placed in other cells, we don't need a whole column for this
  • Cite LA neighborhoods – not sure how each was determined, but they don't all seem accurate, and this link here is a good source for determining neighborhood boundaries

I don't understand why you removed the reference column. Putting all the citations in one box makes it hard for a reader to look up a reference. Plus, a lot of featured lists have a reference column. Also, I don't see anything wrong with the neighborhoods, but that map from the LA Times does look pretty cool. – Zntrip 16:28, 2 May 2012 (UTC)Reply
I was going to cite the neighborhoods from that LA Times map, but I'm not sure what to do about the downtown stations. The LA Times map doesn't show any neighborhoods within downtown Los Angeles, which means that if we rely on it we can't cite neighborhoods within downtown. This presents a problem for stations like Civic Center and Little Tokyo / Arts District, which are named for neighborhoods within downtown, and I don't want to just say those are in "Downtown". New names/articles for Regional Connector stations

Hey all -- Metro has come up with finalized names for the new underground stations on the Regional Connector, which are different from what's currently on this list. I made articles for Grand Av Arts/Bunker Hill station and Historic Broadway station. The station formerly known as 1st/Central is now going to be called Little Tokyo/Arts District, and I assume the article for the current station under that name will just evolve to become article for the new one. Perhaps we can link to this anchor. At any rate, I would change the list here myself but the article seems to use some templates that I don't understand. Apologies! Anyone who could help out, I'd appreciate it.

K Line Opened

The first 6 stations of the K Line opened from Martin Luther King Jr. station (Los Angeles Metro) down to Westchester/Veterans station, so they should be added to the list. Merge Metro Busway station list article into this one?

I am aware that my recent proposal to merge the main Metro Rail and Busway articles together was opposed because such a task would not have been ideal due to the great amount of differences between them and that the two systems are two different modes of public transport. However, I also noticed that the navigation template listing all of the Metro Rail and Busway stations was recently merged together. With this logic, I believe that merging the main station list articles for both Metro Rail and Busway follows through and would be much easier since both articles are mostly just listicles (the Metro Rail article has a brief history section.) Station level ridership

Most transit station lists on Wikipedia have a column for the ridership of each station. Unfortunately, LA Metro does not publicly release this information.

There is a Redditor that requests this data through a public records request, and has previously been directly cited by Metro as having helped them discover an issue with their counting methodology. This Redditor publishes this station-level data on Reddit (of course), so under WP:RS it would count as self-published and generally not useable.

WP:RS does have an exception for self published sources by people who are known to be reliable in their field. I wonder if Metro's acknowledgement of this Redditor would count.

Lastly, I'd also like to posit WP:IGNORE. It's indisputable that having station level ridership would improve the usefulness of this list, so according to WP:IGNORE, we should ignore any rule that prevents us from doing so. --haha169 (talk) 06:05, 10 August 2024 (UTC)Reply

I'm down with this idea. I'd argue that the articles regarding rolling stock are similar to this, I believe the information there are similarly not really officially reported on by Metro to the public. I’d say that it’s reliable since it’s being sourced from a public records request (although I wish the user would publish the the actual raw response to the request) and the agency cited that user as reliable in a note to its board. I’d suggest we handle this by creating a template similar to what was done for BART or what I did for Amtrak. That will make it much easier to update this data in the future (update one page instead of dozens). I can take a stab at it later today or early next week.
