Clean-up

edit

Oy. I can't read it -- it spread way too large and makes me scroll right, across the hot links in the right margin. -- Zoe

Yes, I know. I haven't figured out a better way to present the data here. And I cannot think of an easy way to convert the data into a table. I *did* try to make the data small, but it was difficult to read. I am working on it though. Kingturtle 01:41 Apr 21, 2003 (UTC)
Do you want it converted to a table? It just so happens I have a nice utility to do this, but I don't see that it would help the above problem much... --User:Evercat
Well, I'd love to have the converter in any case. The data right now is in a Microsoft Works spreadsheet. Kingturtle 01:49 Apr 21, 2003 (UTC)
Heh, you're out of luck, it's something I wrote for the Mac to convert from ASCII lists like that into tables. :) But do you want me to do the conversion? --User:Evercat
yes, lets see what it looks like. keep in mind that although it is a list of top-ten, there are a few years where there are eleven men listed, because of ties. Kingturtle 01:54 Apr 21, 2003 (UTC)
OK, I'm on it, but I may need to alter my program slightly to take into account the variable number of entries. Hopefully done in an hour, but maybe a day... --Evercat
Done, but it's not what I'd call pretty. :) Maybe it should be reverted back, I dunno... --Evercat
It is a marked improvement. Kingturtle 02:18 Apr 21, 2003 (UTC)
By the way, it looks to me like Cjones should simply be Jones, in keeping with the surname-only format, right? --Evercat
I'll fix the names soon. The C is there to remind me which Jones it is. Kingturtle 02:58 Apr 21, 2003 (UTC)

Stat locations

edit

Wouldn't it be great if there were a single location for a stat that could get updated, so that editors don't have to change a dozen different pages where the stat is mentioned? markm 18:02, 16 Sep 2004 (UTC)

Older numbers are shakey, sez the Turt

edit

Note: I am still working on getting the 19th century numbers right. Feel free to check my numbers. I know there are mistakes and I am sure inaccuracies exist. -Kingturtle

So why don't you help me by double-checking my math. I did this entire chart by hand. No computers. Kingturtle 05:12, 30 December 2005 (UTC)Reply

Steroid

edit

I removed the stars that were put for players "tied to steroid use". It's not entirely relevant, and it certainly has WP:V problems. I guess when MLB starts making these sorts of distinctions in the statistics, so should we. -- Deville (Talk) 01:37, 24 May 2006 (UTC)Reply

It appears the Bonds asterick was still there, so I got rid of that. Honestly, if there is a point to that other than to blantently dishonor Bonds, then please do not list it. The record does not appear with an Asterick, so it doesn't need to appear with one here. ReZips 04:12, 29 May 2006 (UTC)Reply
The asterisk keeps appearing. I just removed them yet again. --TruckOttr 23:40, 30 May 2006 (UTC)Reply

Can we make the name bold if they have a steroid cloud over them (Bonds, Sosa, McGwire)???? I mean that's not an asterisk, anyway I don't think its really POV now (for Bonds) to say he used steroids. Remember, Book of Shadows must be true, or else the Grand Jury wouldn't be calling the authors to testify as to how they came across the leaked info. --Fayettehelle,NC 02:54, 7 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

Italics

edit

I was thinking about going through the list and italicizing all players during the years that they were active, as Bonds is italicized now. Does anyone have any thoughts on this?--Deville (Talk) 21:20, 13 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

I think it would add too much clutter to the list. --TruckOttr 07:05, 17 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

first home run?

edit

does anybody know who hit the very first home run in history? (anon/ip address)

title change

edit

i think there should be a title change. Something like "List of lifetime home run leaders in MLB" Baseball is not a sport only in North America. There's professional baseball in many parts of the world. If the data includes only MLB, then it should be specified on the title Z3u2 17:51, 8 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

*

edit

There will NOT be an asterisk on any player in this article unless MLB decrees a player's numbers invalid. Kingturtle 02:32, 16 November 2007 (UTC)Reply
