Questions/suggestions
editNice work on creating the list. I like having a list of seasons, but the format seems complex. A few thoughts:
- The season and team columns (although linking to different things) are redundant. I suggest having a single "year" or "season" column with link to the team's season article.
- Having an empty "Division" column for 130+ years takes up extra space without adding much. Why couldn't the division rank simply be put in parenthesis next to the overall conference rank starting in 2011?
- Having the record split into three columns seems unnecessary to me. A simple "record" column with a 9-1-1 record would be easier to read. The only value I can see in having the wins, losses, and ties in separate columns would be if the columns were sortable so that you could see the seasons sorted by number of wins or ties.
- If the overall record were put into a single column, that would allow room to add another column for the Conference Record.
- If you're going to have AP and Coaches polls, you also need BCS rankings. Perhaps the rankings could all be displayed in a single column with some established format like "1 / 1 / 4" for "AP / Coaches / BCS."
- If we trim as suggested above, this could make room for "Pct", "PF" (points for), "PA" (points allowed) and "Delta" columns. These four columns are included in the much simpler format used by College Football Data Warehouse, and are data fields that I find very useful in comparing seasons. See CFDW format here. These columns would be even more useful if they were sortable. Cbl62 (talk) 04:25, 24 October 2011 (UTC)
- All of this is based off of the Texas Tech format, which is currently a featured list. I should note that the list is still a work in progress, but I aim to use the Texas Tech format when it is complete. I actually agree with much of what you said though. The only thing I object to using is the BCS poll, since the AP and Coaches polls are at the end of the season, and the BCS does not have a final poll after the bowl games. Let me know what you think. - Love this list, but I definitely think it'd be worth deviating from the Texas Tech format to make the list sortable. One of the main reasons I've wanted a list like this (and am glad you created it!) is to quickly find seasons with the most wins, most losses, highest rank, etc. Skrymir (talk) 20:39, 2 December 2011 (UTC)
- I have absolutely no problem with creating sortable sections and will probably attempt to do so after the bowl season is over. My main complaint was the inclusion of the BCS rankings, since it just determines a potential bowl matchup and not the team's final rank. SCS100 (talk) 21:52, 2 December 2011 (UTC)
