Potential Updates

edit

I'm looking to make a large advance on this list along with some updates to its associates. First I'm looking to add pictures on the right side of the page, and potentially a column in the middle to distinguish recipients of the Texas Tech Alumni Association's Distinguished Alumni Award. Similar to List of Eagle Scouts page. Does anybody here have specific thoughts or complaints? BradTollefson (talk) 06:37, 25 October 2013 (UTC)Reply

Push for FLs

edit

I'm working on rewriting this list into four separate lists based on existing some Featured lists that would seem to work well for Texas Tech:

My plan is to move List of Texas Tech University people to List of Texas Tech University alumni and create the others from the info from here on "people". Category:Texas Tech University people should be a good start of who to include, but where is a separate question... NThomas (talk) 06:35, 9 May 2010 (UTC)Reply

Thanks again for all your hard work. I wouldn't move List of Texas Tech University people. Take a look at Category:Lists of people by university in the United States. Use of "people" outnumbers use of "alumni" by about 2 to 1. Let me know how I can help. →Wordbuilder (talk) 17:12, 10 May 2010 (UTC)Reply
Didn't see this till after I had moved it or I would have waited. Sorry. The lists in that category with "people" include faculty and presidents. Since Texas Tech has enough for both to carry their their own list, all that was left is alumni, which still had to be split between sport figures and the rest. Since I'm reworking this to match existing FLs on like this, excluding schools with multiple lists divide by field (like the United States Military Academy lists), "alumni" outnumbers "people" 2:1 and the only three "people" lists all include faculty and presidents/chancellors. All of three of them couldn't support separate lists because of their lack in size. I really need help finding sources for graduation years. That seems to be the most difficult obstacle right now. Any citations you can find would be really helpful. NThomas (talk) 08:09, 16 May 2010 (UTC)Reply
Your reasoning makes sense. I didn't delve beyond the surface of the articles in that category to understand the reasoning between the two forms. →Wordbuilder (talk) 17:09, 17 May 2010 (UTC)Reply

Update List of Texas Tech University alumni (sports) in now a FL! The media guides really helped to make a comprehensive list, but there are probably dozens from the Olympic sports that could still be added as they're found. Also on the article's talk page, there's a table of Arena Football League players that could be added but they need a reliable source. NThomas (talk) 18:32, 20 September 2011 (UTC)Reply

Which section should ______ go in?

edit
Abraham should go in Business. Turner should remain in Government, politics, law, and military. I wonder if it wouldn't be appropriate to list some people multiple times if their "claim to fame" is in more areas than one. →Wordbuilder (talk) 17:07, 10 May 2010 (UTC)Reply
I haven't seen people listed multiple times in any other FLs. It maybe out there but but I guess I just missed them if they're there. NThomas (talk) 21:05, 12 May 2010 (UTC)Reply
It may not be the right thing to do. It's just tough to figure out where to list some people. →Wordbuilder (talk) 21:08, 12 May 2010 (UTC)Reply
I defiantly agree. A lot of Texas Tech alumni tend to be renaissance men which makes this harder on us. NThomas (talk) 22:35, 12 May 2010 (UTC)Reply

Photos

edit

I have taken some photos of the Frazier Alumni Pavilion on the campus. However, the Merket Alumni Center is currently under some pretty extensive renovation so I wasn't able to get a good picture of it. As soon as it is complete I will go take some photos of it. I have uploaded a set of retouched photos to the commons and a a un-retouched set to Flickr. If we want to use a photo from the un-retouched set let me know and I will retouch it up in Photoshop and upload it in high quality to the commons. Edit: I also plan on taking some more photos tomorrow when the light is better. —Voltin (T|C) 03:07, 22 May 2010 (UTC)Reply

Great job. That's exactly what I had pictured for the lead picture. I went ahead and touched up the second picture and inserted it into the lead. If your shoot tomorrow comes up with an even better one, we'll replace it accordingly but this shot looks at home in the article. NThomas (talk) 03:15, 23 May 2010 (UTC)Reply
I have uploaded two more angles to the commons, one of the masonry sign in the foreground and the building the background, and one of the courtyard. They can be viewed on my commons gallery page. —Voltin (T|C) 22:50, 23 May 2010 (UTC)Reply

The "question mark" section

edit

Here are my thoughts on where these belong:

  • Jo Carr — "Education" (it's not a perfect fit but best of the categories currently available)
  • Timothy Cole, first person in Texas history to be posthumously acquitted of a crime based on DNA evidence — "Government, law, and public policy" (his case influenced Texas law)
  • Millard Hall, journalist and political consultant, served as press secretary to Texas Governor Preston Smith and was instrumental in the creation of the Texas Film Commission — "Government, law, and public policy" (one that could fit into more place than one but, as press secretary and one of the creators of Texas Film Commission, this is the best place)
  • John Hinckley, Jr., attempted assassin of President Ronald Reagan — "Government, law, and public policy" (his attempted assassination of a politician make this the best category)
  • Cindi Love, 1984[1] — "Business" (closest fit)
  • Rob Powell (Coach, Fitness, MMA Consultant) — "Other" section of List of Texas Tech University alumni (sports)

Wordbuilder (talk) 03:55, 24 May 2010 (UTC)Reply

Went ahead and organized everyone. Thanks for the pointers. NThomas (talk) 06:14, 26 May 2010 (UTC)Reply

List of Notable Texas Tech University alumniList of Texas Tech University alumni – per other similar lists, the word "notable" is superfluous. It is also wrongly capitalised.
