The following is an archived discussion of the DYK nomination of the article below. Please do not modify this page. Subsequent comments should be made on the appropriate discussion page (such as this nomination's talk page, the article's talk page or Wikipedia talk:Did you know), unless there is consensus to re-open the discussion at this page. No further edits should be made to this page.
@CAPTAIN MEDUSA:, why did you approve a review and also say there might be copyvio issues? Questions on copyvio must be resolved before the nomination move forward, or before this can be claimed as a QPQ credit. Flibirigit (talk) 16:38, 30 July 2020 (UTC)Reply
You can't do anything about the full title of the game or official titles. And the site (user) it catches from says licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution licence. ~~ CAPTAIN MEDUSAtalk10:22, 31 July 2020 (UTC)Reply
That does not answer why a review was approved when a concern was listed. The review also failed to make a single comment about any other DYK criteria. Flibirigit (talk) 11:29, 31 July 2020 (UTC)Reply
@Flibirigit: There's a reviewer's template filled out above the reviewer's comment. I checked Earwigs and I don't see any close paraphrasing; all text from the sources has been put in quotes. CAPTAIN MEDUSA, what did you mean by your comment about few lines they may need to be dealt with? I don't see anything that needs to be dealt with. Yoninah (talk) 14:52, 31 July 2020 (UTC)Reply
Great, thanks. Before I restore your tick, however, I think the hooks are rather weak, especially if the nominator wants an image slot. Rhain, do you have any better suggestions? Yoninah (talk) 11:12, 2 August 2020 (UTC)Reply

I would like to propose that this article be merged with List of The Last of Us characters; the main benefit of this would be that, as several characters appear in both games, it would be better if the relevant information was compiled in a single article. Furthermore, the two games form part of a single franchise, and most list articles for characters in fictional works encompass the entire relevant franchise, rather than dividing the article by installment. --LordNimon (talk) 03:00, 10 August 2020 (UTC)Reply
I'm strongly opposed to this. The only characters with sections on both articles are Joel and Ellie, and Tommy is the only other notable secondary character across both games. Even more important is the development and reception information; the games, especially the characters, were so distinctly different in their development that I think any attempt to merge the two articles would be messy and confusing. I think the reception is similarly different for many reasons. Most importantly, though, the characters of Part II are independently notable enough to justify a split. – Rhain☔03:39, 10 August 2020 (UTC)Reply
I will accept your reasoning, but it still feels odd that the TLOU character list is split, when similar articles for most franchises are merged. Also, do you think it would be acceptable to include info from Part 2 in List of The Last of Us characters for characters that appear in both games? I also think that, if we are going to maintain separate articles, we should mention in the intro to List of The Last of Us characters that the list only covers Part I, as the title alone is ambiguous. --LordNimon (talk) 20:17, 10 August 2020 (UTC)Reply
It's a valid concern, but simply referring to other similar articles feels like a case of WP:OSE to me. I think there's enough information to justify the Part II list. I've added brief mentions to Joel, Ellie, Tommy, and Maria's sections in the first game's list (anything beyond that is unnecessary), as well as a hatnote that links to Part II's list for clarification. – Rhain☔00:56, 11 August 2020 (UTC)Reply
