Article Started. Put quite a bit of work into this, but it's still not done.

I grabbed a few summaries from the DarkHorse website to use for summaries until someone else can fill them in, and added small thumbnail-sized cover images for all the books. I've got all the important information; the writer, artist, translator, ISBNs, publication dates, etc., in there as well.

As for the summaries, I'd prefer them to be kept as short synopsis, either the ones from the back of the books, or just a short 1 to 2 paragraph summary.

For more in-depth analysis, an individual article could perhaps be made for the book, as there are just far too many books to fit lengthy summaries into this article. I'd also prefer to keep each book in the multi-book volumes semi-seperate, as they are now, because have different release dates, ISBNs, covers, and would have their own synopsis.

As new English translations are released, information on those can be added in the same way as I have for the first four. I don't think it's important to include images of the English covers, though, as they have the exact same artwork. I'm also aware that the books have been released in Taiwan (?) and probably other countries, but since this is an English-specific Wikipedia, I think it should focus primarily on the source language (Japanese) and the English releases. Information on those books would go better in the Taiwanese Wikipedia (is there one in Taiwanese...?).

Basically, what I think it needs is: Summaries for the books that don't have summaries, maybe a page count and how many illustrations there are, and possibly the publisher.

And for the entries that don't have summaries yet, be mindful of the spacing (two blank lines between entries), because messing with that seems to get the cover thumbnails misaligned.

Oh, and if someone knows how to do a better contents, then that would be good. Basically just make it so the numbers on the left would be Vol. X, etc., where applicable, and the short stories and other things shouldn't be numbered, because they fall outside of the numbering.

Wow—I'm impressed. Thanks for creating this page!

I just fixed the first kanji in Kettoufu so it corresponds to the one shown on the cover, but (unboldly) didn't fix the translated title accordingly. I did this as "D—Record of the Blood Battle" over on the Vampire Hunter D article page, FWIW.

I foresee changes in the English-language titles; I believe the sixth novel is slated to be published under a different title from the one currently shown. (I don't have a verifiable source for this at the moment, however.)—TheCert 03:15, 24 April 2006 (UTC)

As for the translated titles, I'm just using the ones from Kevin Leahy's own summaries, so blame him for any errors =P. And yeah, English title changes are innevitable, (Star Squad of the Evil Overlord? A bit much in English), but the titles are already considerable different. In the Japanese version, apart from the first book, they're all just D-this or D-thatl.

Maten

Is it appropriate to give this book its own section in this way? Maten is a Yoshitaka Amano art book with only a small amount of Vampire Hunter D content. It contains the VHD story "Armageddon" and related illustrations, as well as about four other Vampire Hunter D works, but it's not a VHD book as such. Yeah, but it IS an artbook featuring VHD material. The point of it being there is that if someone wants to know more about Vampire Hunter D, that book is something they could track down and buy. I don't really see any harm in it being there, anyway. Even if it only does have a few VHD things, it still might be worth it for the collectors.

Brief Summaries

Jonathon Clements does give some summaries of the books yet to be translated, not much to go by, but I'll write them up tonight, watch this space.

Sorry I took so long, my computer was blocking the editing pages. Anyway, the summaries are as follows:

Rose Princess: A Snow-White like tale Pale Fallen Angels: D becomes a vampire's bodyguard. Ronin Prestige: Knight with Turin Shadows: D has to fight a dark doppelganger of himself. Dark Road: D rescues a Rapunzel-like figure named Rosaria from a floating castle.

Like I said, not much to go by, but I hope it helps.

Book 10 is actually Dark Nocturne. I don't know when it came out in Japan but it's coming out this May from Darkhorse Jacenskylo (talk) 08:10, 1 February 2008 (UTC)

Revert

I reverted the additions made by Zenosaga. While some of that information was valuable, it was also largely redundant (no need to list the author and artist for the English translation, or to list the sole publisher for each book, when a blanket statement in the introduction already covers that). Page numbers were mostly approximate, and the price listing isn't that important, or, I believe, at least not important enough to warrant addition. Including the romaji titles is also redundtant, as they are already listed below, alongside the original title in Japanese. The Japanese titles also include no referances to volume numbers, however I think we can come up with a better way to include that information.

Also, because the descriptions have not yet been added to most of the books (I am translating the Japanese back-of-book descriptions starting from the most recent book and working backwards, as I have time), the revisions caused the images to become out of alignment with the appropriate entries - perhaps some placeholder text would solve this problem. Covers

I was wondering why the pics for the book covers had been removed? I think whoever removed them should state their reasons for doing so. If not then it would be good if someone puts them back up again. BladeRN 14:23, 14 May 2007 (UTC)

I'm not sure why they were removed and they were removed simply saing, "removed fair use image". Maybe it was some sort of blanket removal? I don't know. I didn't realize there was anything wrong with posting images from the covers of books. Just about any novel you look up on wikipedia has an image of the book's cover, and also looking up the books on any online store will get you similar results.

At any rate, I don't have most of the covers backed up and several of them had been resized manually down to that thumbnail size, and I'm not interested in uploading all 20-or-so over again, especially if someone is just gonna remove them without explanation. Book descripions and other things

Would it be useful (and legal) if I were to change the descriptions of the first seven novels to what they are on the cover of the English book? I would be more than happy to do so, I'm just not certain of its legality in regards to Wikipedia's policies. And I don't want to waste my time doing all of it if it isn't going to stick, so I would appreciate it if I could get an answer on this matter.

Also, is it necessary to include the Japanese titles and publication dates for the first seven novels? If those were removed, this article would be much cleaner. After all, it is the English article. HeroOfVirtue 21:07, 13 July 2007 (UTC)

Is the Vampire Hunter D series still in progress or is it complete?

Still in progress, though the original publisher, Asahi Sonorama, has shut down. The most recent book (Volume 19), a novelization of the serialized D - Throng of Heretics (for iMode phones), was released by Sonorama's parent company, Asahi Shimbun, in October. Major Revisions

I went through and made some major changes. Descriptions still need to be added to most of the works, and I'd still like each individual volume to have it's own article (with the proper book infoboxes, cover art, adaptation information, and so on), but there doesn't seem to be enough general interest at the moment, so at most, all that would likely be produced are stubs. Started making some stubs, and uploading the English and Japanese covers. They've got fair use rationales and such, and most other book articles feature covers in a similar manner, so they shouldn't be removed this time around. First of, great work you did on the pages :) I've changed the book descriptions for the few stubs you've made to match the ones written on the back of the books. I find them to be more accurate and detailed compared to the ones from the DH Press website. I've added those - what you call it, taglines?? - from the books as well. Hope its alright. Copyright Infringement???

Someone tagged the whole article for copyright infringement without any explanation. The alleged copyright infringement is supposedly of the darkhorse website (www.darkhorse.com), which i actually dont see how that should be. I have blanked the entire section. Each little blurb about the light novels is itself a copyvio: for example, try searching for "Humanity is just crawling out from under three hundred years" on google. Feel free to rewrite it, but do it in your own prose; please do not restore the older content, which is a copyright violation. The Evil Spartan (talk) 21:41, 2 January 2008 (UTC)

If its about the description of each novel being copied from somewhere then maybe a rewrite of those would be needed. However a blanket removel of nearly the whole article is unnecessary since removing or changing only those particular paragraphs would suffice. I will restore the article for now and it would be appreciated that no other removals, except the book descriptions, be done until we hear more from other users. You don't need any more input on this issue. There was a copyright violation and The Evil Spartan removed it. Case closed. If you can re-add the content without it being in violation of copyright, feel free to, but we can't have copyvios just sitting in articles for any reason. The only thing I could see that was a potential copyright violation were the plot descriptions, so I restored it to the version without them. However, I must admit that the original copyright violation complaint was very ambiguous and didn't point out a specific copyright violation. Thanks Farix. I was quite stumped that the whole section was removed again even after i had taken out the plot descriptions when i restored the article. All of the descriptions for the books that were unreleased in English were my own personal translations of the Japanese summaries, and should be restored. Kevin Leahy, the translator for the DH releases, has also given permission to use his summaries from the VHD Archives. I don't have time to write up all of that stuff, so if anyone else is interested, feel free. All of the plot summaries thus far were taken from the back of book descriptions, and I'm not sure that it actually counts as a copyright violation if the company in question uses it as promotional material, but whatever. Chronology?

It isn't obvious that D survives the first book. Is it safe to assume it is last in terms of chronology? What about the other books?--184.21.215.174 (talk) 18:20, 27 March 2013 (UTC)

The books are, as far as anyone knows, chronological. The events of the first book are referenced again in the fourth book, and several of the later books share continuity. The last in terms of chronology is the short story Armageddon, which depicts a battle between D and the Sacred Ancestor, which Kikuchi called, "the climax of the Vampire Hunter D series." 65.119.48.190 (talk) 21:11, 5 January 2014 (UTC)
