editThis page and related pages were formerly called "List of active autonomist and secessionist movements." At some point a change was made to "separatist," which has caused endless confusion for editors. I argue that these pages should be renamed to their former names. Otherwise, we end up with no pages on autonomist movements and/or more confusion about what belongs here. In addition, "separatist" is pejorative.Jsorens (talk) 17:26, 17 July 2013 (UTC)
- Anything with semantic content of "separatism" has acquired a pejorative connotation -- it's no different for "secessionist", etc. Autonomist is not, but it is a subset of separatism, not the reverse.--Calthinus (talk) 22:21, 17 January 2020 (UTC)
Overseas territories
editI suggest, that secessionist movements ahould be categorised by country, not continent. This is because of overseas territories, which can belong to an other country on a different continent (eg. French Guiana) or countries, which don't really belong to any continents (eg. the secessionist movement of Abkhazia, which can either be considered Europe or Asia). There is also the problem of the Caribbean region, the article about independence movements in Curaçao is located on the South American page, although the Caribbean is North American and the Netherlands is European. 2003:ED:E732:6901:E022:39B8:8292:7728 (talk) 22:31, 26 November 2021 (UTC)
