It's an ambitious project to gather all Motown and its major sub-labels releases in one page. The question is how to organize such vast collection of titles. By year is one stage. But inside each year's block there has to be some sub-level of classification, such as 'by label'. Or should there exist different pages for the Tamla, Gordy etc releases? And then, for a certain year should the albums be sorted by month release? Another option is to follow the catalog numbers. But they do not always agree with the chronological order. So let's decide on the format of this page. Catalog information can be found in Both Sides Now Album discographies page Zos80 18:16, 14 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

I've edited the link to my site (which I didn't add, but which is where all the singles discography information was taken from) to point to the most relevant (index) page. Please don't revert it back! 90.198.51.237 (talk) 14:19, 24 April 2010 (UTC)Reply

On the subject of the UK singles (and let me point out at the offset I'm British myself)... I might add a page somewhere on my site with a list of the singles' release dates in the UK (and/or a note on each record's individual page as to when it was released in Britain) but otherwise there didn't seem to be much point, since no Motown material came out in the UK before the US (although a couple of tracks were released as singles in the UK first, most notably The Tears of a Clown and I'm Still Waiting, they'd been available on US albums for ages beforehand).

Oh yeah, and Paul Gayten's "The Hunch" / "Hot Cross Buns" isn't a Motown single - it was released on Anna Records in the US and licensed to London American along with a few of the late-50s/early-60s Motown releases which had also come out on, or been distributed by, Anna in the US. Confusing, I know; up until early 1961, Anna was the bigger label and had much better distribution in the US and internationally, and so a few Motown releases were licensed to Anna for better sales - most notably Money (That's What I Want), which sold a lot more copies on Anna than its limited Tamla release, and Shop Around, which was also reissued for national distribution. 90.198.51.237 (talk) 14:41, 24 April 2010 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for the info (will be added later). The albums in this article (and the singles, too) will be getting a new page once the singles section for 1965 is complete (click on the article's external links link to see how far we're at). Once this begins, the albums section will be moved to Motown albums discography and the singles section will be moved to Motown singles discography. A complete makeover process will begin for both once this happens. Hopefully, we can get a Motown wiki project going so we can see where we're at when improving and making new articles. Where's the communication?

edit

Septrillion - I was quite disappointed to see this back-and-fourth reverting between the two of you (I've messaged the anonymous user and asked him to participate here) -- not necessarily because of the edit warring that was going on, but the fact that you didn't initiate any kind of discussion or attempts to communicate with him at all, and despite the edit summaries left with their reverts asking and even pleading with you to consider their concerns. Can you assist this user and work with him? It sound like there are concerns, and we should hear him out and see why... :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 22:13, 13 April 2018 (UTC)Reply

@Oshwah: please lift page protection as it is no longer required. Septrillion (talk) 22:24, 14 April 2018 (UTC)Reply
Sorry for the delayed reply! I was busy the last few days and I'm just now getting caught up with everything. It looks like the protection has expired; if anyone else needs my assistance, don't hesitate to let me know. Cheers - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 08:00, 19 April 2018 (UTC)Reply
