The result of the move request was: Moved to the 'List of X' style, but with 'Communes' as the spelling not 'Comunes'. EdJohnston (talk) 15:08, 20 March 2014 (UTC)
- Comuni of the Province of Agrigento → List of comunes of the Province of Agrigento
- Comuni of the Province of Alessandria → List of comunes of the Province of Alessandria
- Comuni of the Province of Ancona → List of comunes of the Province of Ancona
- Comuni of the Aosta Valley → List of comunes of the Aosta Valley
- Comuni of the Province of Arezzo → List of comunes of the Province of Arezzo
– These are all standalone lists, so per WP:NCLIST they should be named "List of Foo".
Note that this is a sample listing. The full list of 109 pages to be renamed is at User:BrownHairedGirl/Lists of Italian comuni for renaming. The pages are all currently in Category:Comuni of Italy.
Note that this nomination also involves changing the word "comuni" to the English translation "comunes", per the head article comune. Relisted. BDD (talk) 19:19, 11 March 2014 (UTC) --BrownHairedGirl (talk) • (contribs) 11:18, 18 February 2014 (UTC)
- Note In the discussion below, I have supported the alternative proposal to use the English transation: "communes". I have created a revised list of page moves at User:BrownHairedGirl/Lists of Italian comuni for renaming to communes (same pages, new rename targets). --BrownHairedGirl (talk) • (contribs) 13:03, 20 March 2014 (UTC)
- Oppose as proposed. The plural of "comune" is "comuni", just as the plural of "spaghetto" is "spaghetti", and just as our article here correctly states. Google books hits: "Italian Comuni" -wikipedia 416; "Italian Comunes" -wikipedia 26.
- But no objection to moving these to List of comuni of the Province of Foo if there's a reason to do so. Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 16:55, 20 February 2014 (UTC)
- Your objection is well founded in Italian grammar. However, we are not speaking Italian.
- My understanding is that a loanword uses the English-language plural form, not the native language plural form. --BrownHairedGirl (talk) • (contribs)
- I think your understanding is incorrect; our article is quite clear and quite right. The Google result, for what little it is worth, shows that the form used in English is overwhelmingly not "comunes". Do you really want to make a case for circoscriziones, riones, quartieres, terzieres and sestieres instead of circoscrizioni, rioni, quartieri, terzieri and sestieri? for spaghettos, vermicellos, capellinos, tagliatellas, cannellinos? for zucchinos? How would you go about trying to pronounce "comunes" - IPA: [/koˈmuneʒ/]? I'm sorry, I think this is misconceived. Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 19:24, 20 February 2014 (UTC)
- Let's see what others think. It may be better to use the English translation, "commune(s)", which gets 17,500 Gbooks hits. Not all relevant, but a lot are. --BrownHairedGirl (talk) • (contribs) 20:38, 20 February 2014 (UTC)

- Support in principle. I'm torn on the idea of the English v. Italian plurals, but I would generally think we'd follow English norms and would support "comunes" (although "comune" is not really a word in English, unlike "lasagna" etc., so I see why we'd follow Italian usage...) - Support addition of "List of." Support the use of either "communes" are "comuni", with a slight preference for the former. Oppose "comunes." I think that the English-Italian combined plural form "comunes", while logical and not entirely unattested, is a bit of too much of a neologism. It would be more natural either to translate the word into English, or to acknowledge the proper Italian form. As between those two alternatives, I favor English translations (as is done in the case of List of provinces of Spain, among others.) Xoloz (talk) 19:06, 28 February 2014 (UTC)
- Comment: I don't think comuni is any better than comunes as an English title, but apart from that I'm in total agreement with this analysis and proposal, vote below. Andrewa (talk) 05:39, 19 March 2014 (UTC)
- Support alternative proposal of List of communes..., as per my comment above. Andrewa (talk) 05:39, 19 March 2014 (UTC)
- Support "List of communes", as this is an English language project, and we frequently use English terms to describe administrative divisions. bd2412 T 17:28, 19 March 2014 (UTC)
- Support "List of communes" per the comments above. I have been persuaded that it would be best to just translate the word into English. Note that there are Category:Comunes of Italy and its subcats use a variety of terminology for these Italian local govt entities, and if this move is closed in favour of "communes" I will open a CFD discussion to rename them all to "communes". --BrownHairedGirl (talk) • (contribs) 12:37, 20 March 2014 (UTC)
