editPast discussion on use of this list versus use of Category:Operas by title can be found at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Opera#Category:Operas by title. --BaronLarf 13:25, Jun 13, 2005 (UTC)
- I have removed two modern Chinese operas from the list as the genre is totally different. In any case two works can scarcely represent Chinese opera which is a rich field in its own right.

Missing Titles
editSome missing titles: Loreley, Oberon, Le postillon de Lonjumeau, Risurrezione, Le roi malgré lui, Sakùntala, Il segreto di Susanna, The Seven Deadly Sins (Die sieben Todesünden), Si j'étais roi, Sly, Der Vogelhändler, Where the Wild Things Are
This is a hand-made list (unlike the category operas list). How can we keep it up to date? Any ideas? Kleinzach 00:15, 28 January 2006 (UTC)
- What, exactly, is the point of this list? Does anyone know? The discussion alluded to above isn't exactly helpful, IMNSHO. --GuillaumeTell 00:51, 29 January 2006 (UTC)
- I asked myself the same question as GuillaumeTell. Isn't Category:Operas already there, which, as I understand, contains automatically all operas with articles (if the articles contain a reference to that category)? Michael Bednarek 05:48, 29 January 2006 (UTC)
Perhaps we have to consider how this list functions in the overall structure of the opera articles? At some point the Opera Corpus list should become a public, rather than a opera project, page. Will this one then be redundant? It could be marked up for deletion, however there are some much weaker opera pages still in existence, e.g. the dubious, biased List of famous operas and the random List of notable opera companies and indeed the Opera page itself. Revisited
editI've come here to ask the same question as Guillaume Tell and Michael Bednarek asked above, in 2006. This list contains about 425 entries. It purports to list every opera WP has an article on. Yet, Category:Operas lists 1,752 operas with articles. That means this list covers less than a quarter (!) of the population. Yet, if all the holes were filled, it would then be an exact duplicate of the contents of Category:Operas, and thus redundant. Either way, it seems to be purposeless. Yet it's been around for a long time now, and many people have contributed to it. Can anyone enlighten me as to exactly what its purpose is, and what determines what's in in the list and what's not? -- Jack of Oz ... speak! ... 07:55, 13 March 2010 (UTC)
