Obsolete?

"M113 w/ M8 turret- The Army of the Republic of Vietnam (ARVN; South Vietnamese Army) fitted a small number of M113 armored personnel carriers with turrets taken from obsolete M8 Greyhound armored cars."

The M8 Greyhound may be old,but it is not obsolete. The capabilities of armoured Humvees are similar to that of the M8 Greyhound. Dudtz 11/3/06 8:16 PM ET

That's subjective. The M8 was removed from ARVN service precisely because it was viewed as obselete, and subsequently replaced with the XM706. The overall capabilities of the vehicle might be comparitive, but its systems (radio, weapon, etc) are very much obselete, as are various elements of its construction. -- Thatguy96 01:37, 4 November 2006 (UTC)

Gallery

My reason for changing it was because with so many variants and so many pictures it was progressing to the point where there was a picture every line. The way that had existed before that meant pictures didn't line up with variants. I don't find the gallery personnaly objectionable, which is why I changed it. -- Thatguy96 (talk) 17:58, 18 April 2008 (UTC)

NASA

NASA has at least two painted in emergency rescue colors. I couldn't determine what they were used for. I've some some telephoto shots of them. If anyone can tell me what they're for, I'll be happy to upload them. Rklawton (talk) 00:12, 15 March 2009 (UTC)

Australia, heaters removed

Simple really, it almost never gets cold enough in Australia to require the heaters. One less thing to go wrong. Certainly there are times when it gets cold enough that heaters would be nice, to preheat the crew space, but nowhere gets cold enough that their lack is life threatening.

Minenwerferpanzer 64

I have removed the statement, that the installed 120mm mortar was a the French Thomson Brandt design. As a matter of fact, it was a Swiss design, designed and made by K+W Thun (Eidgenössische Konstruktionswerkstätte). I have also added the reference (Swiss Army Handbook of the Minenwerferpanzer 64), since the fact that I have served on these tank of course is not a valid reference. Unfortunately, this hand book is not available online, I got a paper copy at home though.

I will further investigate the statement: "Swiss M106A1's initially had substituted a Thompson Brandt mortar of 81mm type for the standard 4.2"/107mm M30 mortar found on US models." Simply because K+W Thun also designed 81mm mortars and these were used everywhere in Swiss Army (infantry, fortresses). So it would surprise me, if a Thomson Brandt model was used for the Minenwerferpanzer 64, although a Swiss design already introduced and widely used in Swiss Army was available since decades in 1964.— Preceding unsigned comment added by 46.140.87.214 (talk) 06:55, 24 October 2019 (UTC)

Classification: This article has been promoted to B-class by the WikiProject Trucks. A problem is that it fails the criteria (#1), The article is suitably referenced, with inline citations. It has reliable sources, and any important or controversial material which is likely to be challenged is cited.

Images: Presenting pictures is a good thing and according to a source possibly necessary. Something like 62 pictures, however, jumps overboard into What Wikipedia is not. There is little doubt that some can be removed that would also reduce clutter. -- Otr500 (talk) 19:08, 13 February 2023 (UTC)
