Interception count

edit

While I understand that the normal rule is that the stats listed only include regular season stats, this is a relatively unique case where people who don't understand how the system works will continue to change it, since it "feels" wrong. I think using the notation of "0 (1 postseason)" should solve this problem. We can remove it once he gets a regular-season INT. Samer (talk) 01:21, 7 February 2015 (UTC)Reply

What about creating a section section below it to show post season? - Galatz (talk) 03:27, 9 February 2015 (UTC)Reply
I don't think it warrants an entire separate section, but if you want to go that route, feel free. It is clear, though, that leaving "0" isn't going to solve the problem, explanatory note or not. Samer (talk) 17:00, 23 February 2015 (UTC)Reply
Clearly labeling 1 postseason did not work either, there have been many reverts. If having "0" or having "0 (1 Postseason)" has the same result of people changing it the correct approach should be to leave it as it is consistently across every player, which is just regular season. - Galatz (talk) 17:19, 23 February 2015 (UTC)Reply

– Page views indicate that Malcolm Butler (American football) has been viewed 5419 times in the last 30 days,[1] while Malcolm Butler (footballer) has been viewed 60 times in the last 30 days. [2] The cornerback for the New England Patriots is clearly the WP:PRIMARYTOPIC, thus making it unnecessary and inconvenient for "Malcolm Butler" to lead to a disambiguation page as it does currently. "Malcolm Butler" should lead directly to the primary topic, the current American football player. Tocino (talk) 11:40, 7 August 2015 (UTC) --Relisted. Natg 19 (talk) 01:01, 14 August 2015 (UTC)Reply

My thoughts too. Although he is still an active player he has only has 1 notable minute in the NFL. If he never plays again, in 5 years would he still be notable enough to have the direct page? I think this is a conversation to bring up maybe in 1 or 2 years, but right now its recentism. - GalatzTalk 13:41, 11 August 2015 (UTC)Reply

Malcolm Butler (American football)Malcolm Butler – I proposed the RM above back in August 2015, when Butler had less than one year's professional experience. Butler has since gone on to become one of the game's best players at his position ([3], [4], [5]), and he is currently in a contract squabble with his employer, further calling attention to his article. This past month his article has averaged 1,928 page views a day ([6]), while the article for Malcolm Butler (Irish footballer) averages a daily rate of 2 page views ([7]). Malcolm Butler (American football), which has articles in six foreign language Wikipedias (none of which go through disambiguation pages), has clearly established itself at the WP:PRIMARYTOPIC, thus making a disambiguation page unnecessary and burdensome for the reader. Support per nom/WP:PRIMARYTOPIC, and I'll add that application of WP:RECENTISM in the previous RM was misplaced. Recentism is for flash-in-the-pan popularity blips that last a few weeks and then entirely disappear; it's not about topics that maintain relatively high likelihood of being sought for months, let alone years. If that changes in the future we can account for it then. --В²C 16:42, 14 March 2017 (UTC)Reply

Support I was against it before and suggested bringing it back up in 1-2 years, now that you have I agree, he is the Primary Topic, no longer is it recentism. - GalatzTalk 00:53, 15 March 2017 (UTC)Reply

Retired or free agent?

edit

@Bears247: - There are no sources confirming he has come out of retirement. The source you've cited only contains rumors. The title says he is expected to come out of retirement; the opening sentence says multiple reports claim he is eyeing a return, and the tweet from Ben Volin cites an alleged source close to Butler. There is nothing from Butler himself, let alone confirmation that he has returned to the NFL. Bluerules (talk) 23:37, 16 March 2022 (UTC)Reply

I understand what your saying here. but another report just came out today that Butler is meeting with the new england patriots. Players that are retired don’t workout or meet with nfl team, and this is butlers second reported workout in the last 2 weeks. Those 2 workouts being reported, along with is being reported that he “plans” on coming out of retirement should be enough for us to list him as a free agent for the time being. Bears247 (talk) 01:44, 22 March 2022 (UTC)Reply

I agree that the sources about his meeting with the Patriots are reliable because they refer to him as a "free agent". I've updated the lead accordingly. Bluerules (talk) 02:19, 23 March 2022 (UTC)Reply

Birthplace

edit

There are two conflicting birthplaces listed for this player. The information in the "Early Years" section contradicts the sidebar. 2601:14D:4000:C840:EC74:CF99:F1FB:1A01 (talk) 17:35, 5 October 2022 (UTC)Reply
