Requested move 31 August 2016
edit- The following is a closed discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. Editors desiring to contest the closing decision should consider a move review. No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the move request was:
- Marcos Alonso (footballer) → Marcos Alonso – Not moved.
- Marcos Alonso (footballer) → Marcos Alonso Mendoza – Moved. (alternative proposal)
- Marcos Alonso Imaz → Marquitos – Not moved.
- Marcos Alonso Peña → Marcos (footballer) – Not moved.
The consensus is strong for the alternative proposal from Tavix as shown above, that is to move one page, to leave the other two pages as is and to redirect the very first page to the disambiguation page. (non-admin closure) Paine u/c 07:26, 9 October 2016 (UTC)
- Marcos Alonso (footballer) → Marcos Alonso
- Marcos Alonso Imaz → Marquitos
- Marcos Alonso Peña → Marcos (footballer)
– The current title's misleading for a start, because they're all footballers. However he's the only one of the three who's actually known as "Marcos Alonso", so I don't think the dab page is relevant. The others can revert to their more common names, according to the articles. - Comment. Do you have evidence that he's the primary topic among the others? Even if they're primarily known by nicknames, they could still challenge this subject as primary topic, as they're obviously known as Marcos Alonso in at least some contexts.--Cúchullain t/c 20:24, 7 September 2016 (UTC)
- I support the alternative proposal below.--Cúchullain t/c 14:48, 3 October 2016 (UTC)
- Alternative proposal. They're all family, with one being the father and the other being the grandfather. The maternal surname has been used to disambiguate them, and I don't see why we should deviate from that here. I've seen several sources refer to the youngest Marcos by his full name, such as an official transfer notice, World Soccer, and the Wikipedia of his native language (Spanish). Therefore, Marcos Alonso (footballer) should be moved to Marcos Alonso Mendoza and Marcos Alonso (footballer) should be retargeted to Marcos Alonso as a {{R from incomplete disambiguation}}. -- Tavix (talk) 06:50, 20 September 2016 (UTC)
- To clarify, the other two should be left as-is. While they have gone by their nicknames, I don't believe they are common enough to overcome the WP:NATURAL disambiguation already in place. -- Tavix (talk) 21:57, 20 September 2016 (UTC)
- Comment if the primary topic is resolved, the disambiguation page still needs to move to Marcos Alonso (disambiguation) since there are clearly 3 items due to Spanish naming traditions (the "last name" being not the final, but the one before that) -- 65.94.171.217 (talk) 05:56, 27 September 2016 (UTC)
- Support Tavix alternative proposal. i.e. Move Marcos Alonso (footballer) → Marcos Alonso Mendoza and leave others as is. I don't think there's an overwhelming PTOPIC here, and as Cuchullain says, they have all been called Marcos Alonso at one time or another. Clearly sources such as [1] do use the full names sometimes, so they are good disambiguators per WP:NATURALDIS. — Amakuru (talk) 10:00, 3 October 2016 (UTC)
- Other than their legal names, no they haven't. Only the youngest player has. Unreal7 (talk) 15:47, 3 October 2016 (UTC)
- Support Tavix alternative proposal. i.e. Move Marcos Alonso (footballer) → Marcos Alonso Mendoza and leave others as is. (talk) 21:36, 7 October 2016 (UTC)
- Oppose 2nd move since Marquitos could equally refer to Marcos García Barreno In ictu oculi (talk) 21:36, 7 October 2016 (UTC)
- Oppose 3rd move since Marcos (footballer) could (on es.wp at least) equally refer to Rubén Marcos In ictu oculi (talk) 21:36, 7 October 2016 (UTC)

Recent move
editHang on, why was WP:COMMONNAME not considered when moving the article title? The subject is almost exclusively referred to as Marcos Alonso, he is very rarely referred to by his full name of Marcos Alonso Mendoza. Mattythewhite (talk) 13:18, 9 October 2016 (UTC)
- @Mattythewhite: We had to distinguish him from his father and grandfather. "Marcos Alonso (footballer)" wasn't distinctive enough since they were both footballers as well. So to disambiguate, we went with what we call "natural disambiguation." While it's not his most commonly used name, it has been used by other sources to distinguish them in the past, and is (IMO) better than using date of birth. -- Tavix (talk) 14:08, 9 October 2016 (UTC)
- DOB was never an option. Unreal7 (talk) 08:54, 16 October 2016 (UTC)
- I would have suggested it had maternal surnames not been an option, so it's certainly plausible that would have been the next step. -- Tavix (talk) 14:05, 16 October 2016 (UTC)

- Marcos Alonso Mendoza → Marcos Alonso (footballer, born 1990)
- Marcos Alonso Peña → Marcos Alonso (footballer, born 1959)
- Marcos Alonso Imaz → Marcos Alonso (footballer, born 1933)
– Same name, same family. Precedent already set with Vladimír Weiss and Charly Musonda. APM (talk) 21:41, 23 August 2018 (UTC)
- Support the proposed moves for Marcos Alonso Mendoza and Marcos Alonso Peña, but would suggest Marcos Alonso Imaz be moved to Marquitos, in line with WP:COMMONNAME. Mattythewhite (talk) 22:19, 23 August 2018 (UTC)
- Support - gets rid of the maternal names which football fans (particularly those supporting Chelsea and others in the past) do not recognise when reading reports on them in the past. Iggy (Swan) 19:22, 24 August 2018 (UTC)

"Personal life and controversy"
editIs a segment under the latter part of a subheading really the right place to put a convicted manslaughter case? In this article Henry Ruggs#2021 fatal car crash a new segment is given entirely for a case he has not been convicted for yet. Open to understanding more about the reasoning-- I am relatively new to this. Scholarlydoubt (talk) 17:29, 16 February 2023 (UTC)
"Personal life and drunk driving"
editI feel as-though the small subsection on Alonso's driving accident could be explained in more detail, as I believe it' a very significant moment in his personal life. I am proposing a slight elongation of this passage, incorporating sources that are currently not being used. DovC123 (talk) 20:00, 25 March 2023 (UTC)
