Date sort

Hi SanAnMan. In this edit you undid my addition of some sortkeys in the table. Without them, the table does not sort by date. Could you clarify what you mean by "Column already had a date-sort in it"? thanks. — 🦊 20:53, 2 September 2019 (UTC)

This table, like all previous seasons of MasterChef, has a date sort already built in, as the table’s default view lists all eliminations from most recent on top to oldest on bottom. There hasn’t been a need to add a “date-sort” key to these tables in previous seasons. To me it’s just adding unnecessary keys. @SanAnMan: Thanks for the reply. Makes sense, but try to sort the table - the dates are being sorted as strings because there are no sort keys. I'm not sure what you mean by saying there's already a key in the table. It doesn't sort properly because there are none. — 🦊 06:54, 3 September 2019 (UTC)

@Fox: I hear you, I probably should've worded my summary better inasmuch as the table is already default sorted by date, so an additional date-sort key seems to be overkill. Again, going by all 9 previous seasons of MasterChef articles, there hasn't been a need to include such. If someone sorts the table by one of the other categories, a simple page refresh restores the table to its default sort which is date sorted already. - SanAnMan (talk) 13:39, 3 September 2019 (UTC)

@Fox: Personally, it wouldn't bother me any to have it removed. There may be others that object though. But if we're gonna remove it from this season's table, it should be removed from all other seasons as well, IMO. - SanAnMan (talk) 12:12, 4 September 2019 (UTC)

Edit -- I just noticed that the current format of the table makes all columns sortable automatically. There wouldn't be a way to remove the sort option from just the one column ("Status") without completely breaking and needing to redesign the whole table. Full Names of Contestants

The words "Except where otherwise cited, source for names, hometowns and occupations:[2] Ages and nicknames as given on air." are distressing me because it is preventing the contestants full name from being added in. This isn't on the pages for seasons 1-7 so I don't think it should be on pages 8-10 either. Besides how can we know if someone's full name is right if it can't be added? Who knows if any from 1-7 are right? But nobodies tried blocking them. UreasAlasonte787 (talk) 07:41, 28 March 2020 (UTC)

A cited source for names does not in any way "prevent" anything from being added in. On the contrary, it allows for accuracy with the contestants' names. If you bother to actually look at the cited source, you will see that more often than not the source is the press release from Fox themselves. Since that is generally the most accurate source to go by, we use it. The only time we change the name from the cited source is if some other cited *THIRD PARTY* source gives a name variation, such as a full name in place of a nickname. I stress the term third part source because self-published blogs, including LinkedIn, are not independent and anyone can add in anything to sources such as them. In addition, you can't just assume someone's name is short for another name without providing a cited third party source to back up your change. It is WP's position that any factual information be cited whenever possible. As for your statements that previous seasons haven't cited the names, this is true, but it doesn't make the current cites any less valid. In fact, all of the previous seasons should be using a cited source for the contestant names. Just because it wasn't done properly in the past doesn't mean that it shouldn't be done properly in the future (see WP:OSE). Finally, your edit summary with the vulgarity and personal attacks was completely and totally uncalled for, and will not be tolerated in the future. - SanAnMan (talk) 15:54, 30 March 2020 (UTC)

Make the word "ELIM" into "OUT"

Since the show uses the term "eliminated" (or "elimination" as the case may be) I say it's best to keep it consistent. The term has been in use on these tables for 10 seasons now. - SanAnMan (talk) 16:54, 7 August 2020 (UTC)
