editSo, I'm seeing quite a few "citation needed" tags here. Did everyone just finish watching Narcos and decide to come edit stuff because they now consider themselves an expert? XD
in this article said that alvaro uribe velez the president of colombia is from ochoa family and this is wrong, its obvious (uribe velez) no (ochoa). he dont have any nexus neither family neither staff, and he is a honest man ,a friend of united states, a he is a soldier of justice
Total Profits
editThere's a large disrepency between this article and the article on Pablo escobar regarding the amount of money they were making / worth. The Escobar article claims they were making $30 billion annually, where as this article claims they were worth $28 billion in total. I'm more inclined to believe the latter, but don't have the time to check. Just a heads up. Sjkebab (talk) 05:07, 27 October 2008 (UTC)
Escobar net worth was 3 billion 1989. Not 30 billion. Keep in mind that they were wholesalers, not retailers. https://www.forbes.com/sites/halahtouryalai/2015/09/15/watching-netflixs-narcos-heres-pablo-escobar-in-forbes-first-ever-billionaire-issue-in-1987/#4497795f4369
I was a smuggler for the cartel in the 1980's recieving 15 years in Federal prison for my role. Personally, I am aware and was involved with a group who between october of 1986 and february of 1988 imported over 38,000 kilograms of cocaine from colombia to south Florida. That is roughly 1 billion dollars in 1988 money. I have no way of knowing, nor do I have any guess as to how many other groups of people were importing under the umbrella of the cartel. I do know that there was a limit to just how much cocaine the cartel was able to process during these years. I believe that this was the real issue as far as how much money could have been made as EVERY kilo that could have been produced and was produced would have been poured onto the bottomless market that the U.S. had become. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Awriter111 (talk • contribs) 17:24, 9 February 2010 (UTC)

American govt. and DEA in "rivals" section
editIs "rivals" the best word to describe governmental organizations? It would imply that they are gangs I think a more appropriate word should be used — Preceding unsigned comment added by Jamgoodman (talk • contribs) 11:10, 18 April 2018 (UTC)
- I didn’t put it up but yes absolutely American government was a rival. Cartel de Medellín were definitely terrorists, not just violent traffickers like all the other groups. America went after them pretty hard and they were considered a genuine national (actually world) security threat after the Avianca bombing. Gangs usually just fight with other gangs or the police but Pablo fought countries (governments). Pretty much mostly his own though. But it’s not like the Miami glow up didn’t get America’s tampons soaked even before all that anyways. Reagan and Bush wanted his ass. And his threats to Germany (which were also very meaningful threats because Germany had an embassy right in Bogotá which, is like, where his biggest bombs were you know. He has the ‘terror’ the fearing element where he’ll cross the line and then make up a new line a football field away and then cross that line.
- And I can’t say any other governments to my recollection really supported him in the 88 - 93 era but he still definitely got help from groups in Spain for some of those bombs. Anyways, yeah the embassy.. It’s a building. And we all know what Pablo Escobar likes to do the buildings. The thing is when have billions to fight, you have billions to fight. Meaning more than millions. Which is frankly a lot of firepower in a third world (no offense) but beautiful Latin country when it’s the 1980s and everyone at that point all around the world only experienced the 70s so shit felt real.
- But back to the embassy.. Germany kinda be allies with U.S., and so was Colombia, and Colombia (well THAT part of Colombia) was in bloodshed and I’m pretty sure the Colombian president was in Bogota.. Oh yea and some Americans died in the 1988 Avianca bombing, so yeah. So pretty world security threaty. America’s basically the world’s police anyways and when you’re Pablo Escobar, you don’t just piss off the police, you piss off the world police. Dexedream (talk) 18:30, 5 August 2023 (UTC)
Every assassination by the cartel is a murder
editThere's no way to explain a cartel assassination that is not murder. Stop putting a redundant addition in the infobox. In addition, the infobox isn't an exhaustive list, so trying to shoehorn in "intimidation" is a waste. Intimidation is a tactic used to achieve something else, like extortion or witness tampering. Just listing it alone is like listing "walking" since they may walk into a drug deal. Niteshift36 (talk) 18:04, 15 May 2020 (UTC)
Killed in Action
editThe dagger next to Pablo Escobar's name links to Killed in Action, which says this is "generally used by militaries to describe the deaths of their own combatants at the hands of hostile forces". Is this applicable for us here? I removed it, but it was restored. St.nerol (talk) 06:40, 19 August 2021 (UTC)
Now the template has been restored twice by another user. The instructions at Template:KIA says explicitly that it's meant for military conflicts. I have started a thread at Template talk:KIA. @MountainTraveler:, please explain your position here. In absence of a proper discussion, I will go by the template instructions and remove it again. –St.nerol (talk) 10:06, 28 August 2021 (UTC)
